We invaded Iraq to save the U.S. dollar from collapse.

One of Paul Bremer's first acts as leader of the Coalition Provisional Authority was to decree that Iraq's oil sales be forever executed in U.S. dollars. This helps to prop up the currency of the world's largest debtor nation and keep our financial system from collapsing.

Excerpt: {Subtitle: The Americans could live with Saddam until he started selling oil for euros instead of U.S. dollars. Then the Europeans could live with him. }

Why does there have to be a hidden agenda? Why can't people take it for what it is? It's a war on terror.

I am tired of reading all these empty threats and assumptions. Do any of you have solid evidence that we are fighting this war for oil? No, because there isn't any and if there was I am sure it would have been on the front page of the New York Times right next to the article explaining to the terrorist just how to get around our pesky security.

There is no hidden agenda. The Neocons have been outspoken about their desire to overthrow Saddam since the Cllinton administration. They even have a website that explains in very clear terms what their agenda is: To establish a perminant base of operations in Iraq in order to have direct US influence in the middle east, especially in the oil-rich gulf region.

They've made no bones about this, and it was policy as soon as Bushco got selected.

The US government (as well as the UN) was convinced by a former Iraq politician Ahmed Chalabi that Hussein had weapons of mass destruction and had clear intent on using them. Saddam, in his arrogance defied the UN's attempt to corroborate Chalabi's claims.

It has since been proven Chalabi lied.

Saddam started this with his invasion of Kuwait. Upon his defeat he was allowed to surrender under certain terms...He could not keep those terms.

Americans don't even know the answer to this question. There's a lot of speculation out there, but the only people that can give you a real reason, are the people running our government and if you get a straight answer out of them - I'd be shocked.

Don't judge us by what our government does - we have no control of them and most Americans just want to live peaceful lives without causing so much trouble.

Annihilation? Seems to me that the Iraquis were doing an exceptionally good job of that long before the U.S.A. got involved. Where the U.S. troops are in control something closer to sanity reigns...in most cases.
