Myth: Acne is related to diet
Reality: Prevailing wisdom in the dermatology community is that diet and acne are not related. Of course science is never a 100% reliable enterprise. But at this time, there is no evidence that chocolate, sugar, oil, milk, seafood, or any other food causes acne. Some people absolutely insist that a certain food causes acne for them, or that a specific acne diet works for them. In this case, doctors sometimes recommend that they avoid that food or follow that diet. Regarding chocolate specifically, several studies have been performed, and the answer to "does chocolate cause pimples?" is a resounding "No".

What is up with people thinking food causes acne?! Yes, it has effect but only a little one. Acne is a mutation in the gene pool so if your parents had it...you'll probably have it too. The reason why you break out from chocolate specifically is because its made from the cocoa plant/bean...WHICH IS POISONOUS, that's why you break out. Also, neglegence causes it...if you don't keep your skin clean and hair washed the oil is going to build up. So chocolatelover you can indulge, but watch it your poisoning your skin, also eat less acidic foods such as citrus fruit/food and tomatoes (avoid italian as much as possible).

Pure cocoa itself does not cause acne, it is actually healthy for you. But the extra's in chocolate bars or hot chocolate, etc, etc, are very bad for you and can cause acne.

No studies have shown that your diet does not "cause" acne. But adding certain things to your diet can give your skin a better appearance since you are what you eat right? But acne itself is caused by bacteria and how your body (face) responds to the acne is partly genetics, partly your own upkeep.

No. Chocolate in moderation can be quite good for you. But too much chocolate is not good because of the fat and sugar.

Not at all. It's a myth. Only hormones cause acne. Food has nothing to do with acne. :-)
