How many betta's? How big of a tank? What type of decor?

I love hearing about the communities. They're so cool.

I have 5 girls in my 25gal in the basement, with 6 minnows of some sort (I forget) and theres lots of baby guppies in there as well because the holes in the divider are too big. In the other 25gals of the tank is a large guppie communitie meant for breeding.

I started the tank off with 1 of my girls who has been kept by herself in a 1.5gal all her life, and I left her there by herself first to make sure it was safe. After a few days of her being in there, I put my already-exsisting 3 community betta's in there. They became very territorial about it at first, chasing eachother around, but after 2 weeks of living together they very RARELY flare at eachother, and even then it's just to get the other one out of the way.

Then I bought a girl from the store and put her in there as well. She learned her place quickley and now gets along with everyone.

I just love it!!

So, I have 5 betta's in a 25gal. The tank decor consists of a plastic bog-wood looking piece with holes so they can swim around and explore it, and a piece that looks like a cup almost, a big red flat-like cup, and under it is a small cave.

The cup-like piece is completely surrounded by very tall plants.

It's so pretty, and the betta's just love exploring everything.

I've been keeping betta's for 5yrs, I know the hole male/female/breeding details. ;) And 25 gallons is enough room for them each to have their own space. 5 gallons per girl. I'm suprised myself to see that none of my girls got nipped even while getting used to eachother. I've looked over all of them thoroughly for nips, and they're in great condition. It's obvious that if theres ever a problem to remove the cause immediatly, which isn't a problem since I already have 2 back up tanks unused.

And wow, sounds like a hefty little community you've got there birdistasty. :P

I have two males in a heavily planted twenty gallon and no probles, I believe that they are extremely near-sighted and loose sigh of each other before they get a chance to fight.

that's possible to have a community betta tank yet you may want to be truly selective even as choosing fish. You stated you want 2 male bettas and six-8 women. that isn't a strong theory in any respect. Scale it right down to at least a million male and four women. even as coming up a betta community tank, that is critical to get fish with small fins and little to no shiny colour in any respect. Zebra Danios are probably the finest tankmate for a bettas. Black, silver, or pepper/dalmatian mollies would artwork yet male have lengthy dorsal fins. this may galvanize a male betta to attack him. I have seen bettas stay with different fish even if that's less difficult to save them one at a time or have a betta tank (a million male and some women). good success!

Only female bettas can be kept in the same tank. Males will kill each other. That is why they have the nickname of Siamese Fighting Fish. As for how many females you can keep in one tank, I found out that while they do not kill each other, they do need their own space and so if you have too many, they will fight/kill any other that invades their space. Just because any that are put together have not killed each other yet, it is a tragedy waiting to happen. Males can even kill females. The only time a male and female should be put together is if the male and female are both ready for breeding and once that has happened, they should then be separated. I know too many people who thought it would be so cool to have a tank of male bettas, and it did not take long for the fighting to start.

I have a male in a 55-gallon with seven neon tetras, five cory catfish, three African dwarf frogs, three zebra danios, three fancy-tailed guppies (one male and two female), and two silver dollar tetras, which he likes to bully. Haven't had any major problems since he only goes after the silver dollars, and they're bigger than he is anyway.

I had one but I took the betta out he attacked my fancy sword tails and killed them. They attack anything with flowing tails.

Males are much more aggresive than the females.
