There are always things to see on Broadway, let me give you a quick list.

Wicked - PG - It's Wicked, if you haven't seen it, you probably should, although the show was SO much better with Idina Menzel, Kristin Chenoweth and Norbert Leo Butz! Go see it just so you can say you saw it on Broadway.

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels - PG-13 - A great funny show, with wonderful songs a witty movie plot and great actors. Although John Lithgow is no longer a cast member, Johnathan Pryce is an exceptional actor. Of course Norbert Leo Butz and Sherie Rene Scott are still there so you have AWESOME original cast. Great Show.

Spamalot - PG-13 - Another funny Movie made Broadway musical. Although it no longer has the luster of the Original All-Star cast, it does have Lauren Kennedy, who I have to say has perhaps the best comedic timing I have ever seen in my life. She is an incredibly dedicated performer who deserves a standing ovation on about every number she performs. The show in its entirety is funny, entertaining, full of spectacle and will not waste your time.

Hairspray - PG - A classic broadway piece that all girls, women and some men enjoy. It has great 50-60's inspired music, a good story, and great talent. Another one that if you haven't seen, you probably ought to.

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee - PG-13 - A funny show about a spelling bee. The performers are incredible, the music is great thanks to writer William Finn. It is definitely a show to see, and be prepared to laugh for a couple of hours.

The Fantastiks - PG - A GREAT SHOW with GREAT MUSIC and it just came back!

Tarzan - G - Another Disney Broadway Debut. I haven't seen it, but the reviews have been decent. It, like all other Disney Musicals, is JAM PACKED with spectacle. It is a wonderful visual piece. And if you have always wanted to see an American Idol contestant play a lead on Broadway, Josh Strickland relieves your itch.

Wow! I have listed a lot, but not enough, so here are some other shows that are worth seeing.

Sweeney Todd - PG-13 - Incredible Cast, Incredible Music, Incredible Show!! A must see.

The Drowsy Chaperone - PG - It has Sutton Foster, so it's gotta be good. A return to the Golden Age style of theatre in a contemporary sort of way.

The Lion King - G - More spectacle, Legend of a show.

Phantom of the Opera - PG - What don't you know about this show?

Altar Boyz - PG-13 - Funny Christian Boy Band kind of musical.

Beauty and the Beast - G - Once again, what don't you know about this musical?

Jersey Boys - PG - Won the Tony for Best Musical this year, so it has got to be okay. However it is another Jukebox musical, in the same vein as Mamma Mia, We Will Rock You, etc, etc.

The Color Purple - PG to PG-13 - Great Music, Great Performers, a very moving piece.

The Producers - PG-13 - A Legendary Broadway show. Very funny, great performers.

The Wedding Singer - PG-13 - Another Movie gone Musical with a stand up comedian starring as the lead.

Hope that gives you some idea.

From a professional stand point, you may want to consider what plays and musicals won the most Tony Awards.
The Winner of Best Play: The History Boys
The Winner of Best Musical: Jersey Boys
(I recommend both.)

From a personal stand point, I recommend The Drowsy Chaperone, which contains many big name stars. (Also, it won five Tonys.) I also recommend The Wedding Singer. The show itself may not be good as a whole, but you'll come out of the theatre dancing and humming the tunes because the music is so catchy.

Some other shows that you might want to consider:
Avenue Q
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
Forbidden Broadway
Hairspray
I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change (Off-Broadway)
Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me
The Pajama Game
RENT
Spamalot
The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
The Producers

I have a few sources listed below if you want to read about the shows.

I highly suggest Drowsy Chaperone, you'll be able to get good tickets on short notice and it's hysterical.

The best play out now is The History Boys...if you go for student rush in the mornings you'll be able to get tickets, if not...sorry.
