My son will be 4 months old on Friday, the 7th and he weighs 18lbs 9oz. I am worried about him, yet his pediatrician seems to think he is okay. My daughter weighed that much at 15 months. Anyone have any advice?

That weight is around the 95th percentile for boys at age 4 months old (see sources section below). It is below the 15th percentile for girls (who are generally smaller) at 15 months old. So, both are *normal*, but they are at opposite ends of the spectrum.

The growth charts below, by the way, are the newest and most accurate ever used. They are the first ones ever based on a population of children who are *known* to have been well-nourished; earlier charts were based on large numbers of babies/children with an unknown nutritional status.

My son is 4 1/2 months he weighs 16 lbs 2 oz. I think it can go one way or the other with all babies when it comes to weight but in a few months once he starts crawling and being active it will all balance out.

He is a bit on the heavy side. Medically he doesn't have a problem-not yet. But as an experienced Mom I think he does weigh too much and if he continues to gain weight then you will have a very overweight baby who will develop excess fat cells and grow into a fat kid and a fat adult . So try to give him water and vitamin drops in the place of juice. This should cut down on his caloric intake. Also do not overfeed him.

Depending on how much he weighed at birth he should gain 1-2.5 lbs every month. If you think that he is to heavy or hungry all the time try feeding 2-3 ounces of water in between feedings.

Avg weight gain is 5-7 ounces per week. 16 weeks x 7 ounces = 112 ounces. 16 ounces in a pound so 7 pounds. So an avg 7 pound at birth kid but 7 pound growth is 14 pounds. You're kid could also be bigger person. Are you or the father over 6 feet tall? Was the baby born full-term? Breast-feeding or formula? Cereal yet? These can all play a factor in your child's weight.

I wouldn't worry, you can't really compare a boy to a girl. My daughter was above average on all height, weight etc, and my son is under average...kids are just different...some lil boys do get chubby, he's fine..don't worry unless your doc does.
