Yes.

The industry goes out of its way to promote a negative image.

I grew up loving hip-hop, then I worked with juvenile delinquents in the Bronx. When I asked them how they got arrested they would often answer with some silly rap lyric. "keeping it real"..."Keeping what real?" Then they gave you the blank stare... You mean you are in detention because DMX said so???

No exaggeration these kids were lost and could not separate fiction from fact.

I wouldn't say the music is a bad influence, because there are some really great artists that do it. However, the perception of what these people are about only leads the often misled youths into doing something stupid or trying to act out what they believe these people are about. Its the same as when those idiots shot up the school in CO and people tried to blame the music they listened to. Marilyn Manson did not make those kids crazy no more than hip-hop might make someone crazy.

hip hop is a reflection of a certain culture. its no worst the rock in fact i beleieve rock and roll has way more drug use then hip hop does and just as many deaths due to gun shots. look at john lennon and jimmy hendrix (both shot). so no i do not think it is a bad influence. the bad influence are parents who blaim everything on media instead of raising thier children. the apple doesn't fall far from the tree is a true statement.

and im sorry but most music degrades women even women who sing it. so stop blaiming hip hop for the degrading of women when rock and roll have degraded them for years, and theirs songs out their by women who basically give themselves to men with no say so. if you do not beleive read the lyrics to any montley crue album

No, I do not agree, I think that you should have a mind of your own. You shouldn't be easy influenced by music, tv, Internet, gossip, or even others. The statement you made can go for anything. Like does rock influence you, t.v. or Dr. Phil. Just be strong-minded and think for yourself and yes some people take things to seriously but if you blame anything blame the media as a whole the big corporate people who are just tryin to make some bucks who make the shows, commercials, and the videos.

I saw "honk if you are a gangsta" spray painted on a bridge the other day.
I saw three boys walking down the street the other day and they all had to hold their pants up.
I can't take my wife out without hearing a bunch of quasi-black-ghetto vulgarity that sounds so much like some of the highly cultured lyrics in hip hop.
So yeah, I DO think it's having a bad influence.

BTW, it isn't music if you can't whistle it and Jimi Hendrix died of a drug OD.

anytime a new music genre appears, the conservatists have something degragading to say about it.
remember the 50's.. rock and roll.. whites singing blues and rhythm songs.. the fall of the youths
the 60's...rock and roll led to sexual revolution
the 70's heavy metal rock led to drugs
the 80's ..punkrock new wave led to tatoos and body piercing
the 90's rap led to violence
2000 now its hip hop .....decadence of society
give me a break,..... focus on what is really going on.
violence ,drugs and sex on tv 24 hours a day. so our kids can watch while we are out trying to make a living to pay for the cable and video games that are rotting thier minds.
thats what is having a bad influence on society

Its really not any worse than some of the RAP, that's out there. I thought the tune to "Laffy Taffy" (not saying this is rap) was cute, and catchy, so I used it as my cell ringer, UNTIL my daughter says, "Mom! look up the lyrics of that song on the net, and then tell me if you still want that as your cell ringer" Soooo, I looked it up, and I was totally appalled!! lol

There are so many things in our society that's a bad influence, we just have to be more selective on what we become involved in, especially our kids, its OK to tell them NO!

not the hip hop culture itself... however some bands and the idea of women being just meat.. may hurt the public image.. but hip hop is a way one expresses themself

Our society created hip hop culture, so your question makes no sense.

Absolutely. Degrades women, morals, working, police, and society as a whole. While sure, the music has a great beat, it certainly does nothing to promote excellence.
