Try pysanky (Ukrainian Egg decorating). The kit costs about $40 dollars to startand can decorate about 4 doz eggs. I learned this from my mother when I was about 7 yrs old and still do it for the holidays (I'm 32 now). Once you learn the basic designs, you'll be able to create your own eggs in no time.

All my hobbies are interesting or I would not do them. However cheap is another story.I guess you can do a number of hobbies cheap if you want to put a little effort into making your own tools and gathering material from various places. My first hobby is playing pool which can be quite cheap once you get good. The next one is photography and this too can be fairly cheap if you use digital and never print your photos.Number 3 is wood working which you can do with hand tools albeit pretty tough but still can be done as Roy Underhill use to prove every Sunday on PBS.Number 4 is leather working which I really like since it is a quiet hobby and can be done in the middle of the night. This to can be a cheap hobby. You really do not need much to start.Number 5 is metal working which is by no means cheap to start, however once you acquire the tools you can find metal almost anywhere and especially on garbage night when people throw out old bed frames and metal shelves and laundry poles.Number 6 is probably the cheapest hobby and that is gardening. As long as you buy seeds or collect seeds from plants it is practically free and can be free if you go out and collect seeds from the woods or nice neighbors. The rewards are very nice and can also be profitable if you grow vegetables and sell them , you can even grow flowers and sell them. A friend of mine makes a nice living breeding day lily's and selling them.

I recycle and repurpose things. I keep the jars that candles come in and embellish them with jewelry findings, ribbon, buttons, using them for candies and nuts I give away at Christmas. I keep tall bottles to make homemade vinegars and oils, embellishing them as well. I keep cards and gift wrap to make gift boxes, bags, envelopes and other cards for the holidays, birthdays, etc. I make purses and pillows out of coats and clothing fabrics that I think are interesting, but I can no longer wear for whatever reason. Everytime I am about to throw something away, I take another look at what can be done with it. I also make my own bath salts, oil and lotions so I'm always looking at buying products in interesting containers that I can re-purpose.

Hi there! I'm about to get into Polymer Clay figure making. If you hit Michaels at the right time you can get Polymer clay for pretty cheap. The thing that is expensive is the equipment and books. I thought it would be something different to do, and something relaxing...and maybe if i'm good enough, I could sell my stuff on ebay for a profit. :) Good luck in finding something!!

Buy an ink pen and sketchbook and do Zentangle art, no drawing experience required. Google search ZENTANGLE for more info about it. You can also buy instruction books on Zentangle art at amazon site. You can also do digital painting on the computer. It is non-messy and it is cheaper to do because you do not have to keep buying art supplies. Do abstract art or zentangle art or landscapes if you do not want to learn how to draw real subjects. You can also sell your art on the internet and make some money, the first video below talks about that also. I have seen numerous people wanting to buy Zentangle art. Go to youtube site and search the following words to watch these 2 great videos about digital painting: das41 software painting tutorial paanartcreative

One hobby that I have is making baskets out of pine needles. If you can get the pine needles, it is a relatively cheap hobby (you need to buy artificial sinew, a pair of scissors, a tapestry needle, a drinking straw and get the pine needles themselves). Once you get good at making baskets you can even sell them.

Penpals are great. You can find them in the GRIT magazine or a penpal site to start. Once you get into that , you can get into sticker books and friendship books and find penpals in those.
If you like to write or build friendships in the mail, this can keep you busy and at the same time, you choose when you have time to visit.
And Rubber stamping is really fun, though it can cost to get started.
