I just got a new Dell Dual Core Processor lap top with a fast processor and plenty of memory, but it seems to take forever to start up. How can I make it start up faster?

Go to the startup menu and deselect those programs you don't need to start.

Go to control panel and add/remove programs. Get rid of all the programs you don't need especially the advertisement ones.

Then, from the start menu, click Run and type msconfig. This will bring up a popup window, the last tab will show all the startup programs. Deselect them.

There should also be another tab for services, you can turn many of the services off that just run in the background that you rarely ever use.

You could try removing all unnecessary startup items from the systray.

You could go to 'Run' and then type in msconfig in the space where you might sometimes type in 'cookies'. It would take you to a startup items menu. You would only uncheck the ONE box at the very bottom. It would remove all programs that start up at the same time as your computer. You could reinstall all items that were removed and you still wished to maintain, such as the sound icon, for example.

You could see how it works!

On the bios settings you can disable all the startup checks, from the main bios menu. This will make the 'windows is starting up' logo pass quicker. Enter the bios by usually pressin DEL whilest it is loading up. If your wanting to edit startup programs, only use MSconfig if you are experienced on PCs. Msconfig is a great way to damage your pc. I would reommend using a tool from somewhere like download.com

First remove unnecessary startup items from the startup list (go to Start > Run and type msconfig) go to the startup tab and deselect any items you do not need. Check them with a search engine before disabling them. System critical components are in there as well.

Then clean out any junk files using CCleaner, http://www.ccleaner.com/ and use the registry cleaner included with it as well.

Next get CleanUp! to remove anything CCleaner might have missed, http://www.stevengould.org/software/cleanup/download.html

Then get TuneXP to optimize the way your system works (a very detailed help guide is included to assist you in using the program), http://www.driverheaven.net/dforce/default.php

Then you can get BootVis to optimize your startup, http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=664

Lastly defrag your hard drive using either the built-in utility or find yourself Diskeeper Lite.

Most of the time there are MANY useless programs that start up in the background. If you go to run and use msconfig, you can go to the startup tab and disable a bunch of programs that you don't need to be running during startup. you can also click disable all and go back in after it starts up and you can re-enable the ones you want to start up.

click start-programs-startup
delete whatever you dont need to start when the computer starts
the programs will still be installed on your computer they just wont start till you tell them to
also
click start-run- then type msconfig
go into the start up tab and look for programs you dont want to load at start up
if you cant tell what you need or dont know either turn them all of at once and see what happens and then 1 at time turn them back on till only the ones you want are starting
or 1 at time turn them off and see how it goes either way
same end result
good luck

Go to Start and then Run and type in "msconfig." Then go to the startup tab and uncheck any programs that you don't want to startup when you turn on your computer.
