i can comprehend it

We live in a finite world: there are borders, four walls and a roof, the span of a single lifetime. We have no direct experience of the infinite or the eternal in our personal lives (and no, I'm not getting into a religious debate -- God may experience the eternal and infinite, but we only get a glimpse of it through religion), so we have no basis for comparison. Part of us wants to believe there is an edge to the universe, that there was a beginning and there may be an end, because that places measurable boundaries our brains can handle. Saying that it goes on forever, both in space and time, is difficult to visualize because it isn't quantifiable -- how far is infinity in kilometers? light years? and how about forever? how many years is that?

we cannot comprehend the thought because we cannot learn it because our brains can't imagine the scope of infinity, whereas the universe does not have a brain, hence cannot comprehend this fact either, so it just exists. plus, it depends on the definition of 'going on'. do you measure it by the time that the universe is in existence, or the total time of infinitely, because the universe won't last forever, unless the critical mass of the universe = 1, but that's another story.

I think our mind has a "built in" logic, and logic tells you that ALL things end, but when you think of the universes ends that raises more questions, like what is out side the "end."
Your mind then comes back to the idea of the universe being never ending.

I think that this kind of thinking means that people have the natural curiosity to try and find answers, to understand our world is what separates us from the animals.

Because we are use to certain things. The universe is so huge and vast that it is too great for our minds to comprehend. Its like the thought of God and how He always was and always is. I think it would be too much for us to handle.

because the thought that we are as insignificant as a grain or rice in a rice field destroys the human psyche our psyche loves to believe it's the center of the universe when that snaps/ fails to be true that person feels small and tiny in the grand scale so it would be like taking a colony of ants and putting them up to a herd of elephants it would blow their "minds"
