Too much sad above.
U'll partitioning software.
u'd better use Disk Directore by Acronis rather then partition magic by symantec.
in brief, it's cheaper and is more functional.

Use FdisK but partitioning a hard disk requires a level of expertise otherwise it can lead to loss of data and other problems. U get a C drive after partiotioning your hard disk without partition u just have an un partitioned hard disk

You can use a windows XP install disk to partition a drive. Be aware that the drive you are partitioning will be erased.

"Use FdisK but partitioning a hard disk requires a level of expertise otherwise it can lead to loss of data and other problems. "
I laugh when I read this. A *proper* harddisk repartitioning, requires loss of data as it's main prerequisites, there is programs like partition manager, that avoids data loss, but I can only say, fdisk cannot partition anything, it can only do a reformat and formatting roughly is equal to deleting all data from a storage device.

Use fdisk its a very good utility.
If u r using more than 60 gb then fdisk won't help u. so go for Disk management software. else start installing WInXp after one reboot it will prompt you where to install read instructions carefully. From here u can partition and format and install Xp direcltly :)

If your running on a pre-built system, eg. Advent, Compaq, HP, etc. you can use your recovery disk and go to the advanced menu. There should be Hdd tools like partition, or format.
