how much can people make for typing things for people who need things typed?

I work typing things for some adult business woman and I only get minimum wage I was wondering whats the best deal I can get off of her. ps she drops all kinds of bull like "I can give you a raise because your a minor" is that a form of discrimination? and I have and average of 30 Guam (words per minute).

also I am the only one who knows the most about computers in that job. they cant type as fast as me and they dont know the short cuts i know. so in other words i am their only hope 2 get things typed fast.

In my last typing job I made $9 per hour. It depends which area of the country you are in as to how much you can expect to get. I'm not sure what the rules are for minors, but I don't see why you can't get a raise.

I'm not sure. It sounds like you're under 18, and I'm not sure what the rules are with paying those with work permits for minors, etc etc. I am 23 and I make $15/hr as an administrative assistant, but it's a little more than just typing stuff. I also can type 80+ WPM, so that does make a difference.
If you're unhappy with your wages, maybe another job would be better. I waitressed when I was a minor and made the minimum wage (which then in my homestate was $5.25) plus tips, and that's a much better deal than just settling for minimum. Since you're young, you're not going to get a top notch position, with little experience. But for money's sake, maybe food service (or another tipped position) is a good option now, and you can go to school to be a transcriber or office assistant in the future.

The woman paying you is abusive, selfish and a liar. She is not discriminating because she would take advantage of ANYbody, adult or not. You should not be paid by the hour if you work from home.
If you have to do more than just transfer information from paper to computer (data entry), you should charge accordingly. If you do extras, like : 1. editing 2. proofreading 3. composition
4. copy editing, you need to charge extra.
Determine your own fee schedule based on what you are currently paid and what you currently do. You should not be taken advantage of, and you are providing a convenience. Be prepared to get the axe ; remember, it is better to deal with unemployment than to deal with resentment. The woman's treatment of you was disrespectful.

hourly at best. 30 words a minute is quite slow actually. I'm no typist but I get 50 words a minute.
