In the beginning of Superman Returns, there was a strange crash in on the Kent Farm. When Martha Kent went out to investigate the crash, she saw a spiky, star looking thing, much like the pod that Kal-El was transported in from Krypton in the first Superman. Can someone explain to me what that thing was and why Superman passed out?

Superman is an alien from outer space and that was his ship and he crashed and passed out.

In the original Superman movie that is how he came to Earth as a child from Krypton. In Superman Returns, he just got back from a 5 year journey to Krypton to see if anything was left. That was the "ship" that he used to get there and back.

hi hi hi - to all that stated something about not liking the movie, you at the on the spot are not a real superman fan, btw i imagine the purely disappointing aspects were 2 - lois had a toddler, superman has continually been the guy with tremendous morals yet a baby out of wedlock become not good, and #2 being he has a toddler .

I assumed it was an identical ship that he used to travel back to Krypton to see what remained there. He was probably exhausted from the travel which is why he looked so weak after landing (remember he gets his power from the earth's sun).

i think it was a piece of his homeworld that he found and brought back
the better question is - if he could barely stand on the kryptonite island, how the hell did he lift it into orbit
that was just stupid!
