The law you are speaking of is called tort reform. These restrictions place a maximum value on how much people can sue for certain cases. It is a very serious topic, and if you bring it up to a lawyer, they will probably hurt you.

But getting to the question at hand: People have the right to sue over just about anything in this country- that is not to say that they will win. Also- if you sue just for the hell of it, you yourself can be counter-sued. I wouldn't say that these people are well founded in their attack, but they are entitled to sue if they feel they have been wronged.

Side note- have you seen how many calories are in fast food? I'm not saying anyone should be suing over it, but there is way too many calories in a simple meal at any local fast food restaurant.

People sue because first of all they are unwilling to take responsibility for their own health and are willing to blame anybody but themselves for their own obesity, second because fast food chains have a lot of money, and third because lawyers who work on contingency fees (only get paid when they win a case) make this kind of frivolous lawsuit much easier for people to start. You would see a lot less of this kind of thing if people actually had to pony up $5,000 to retain a lawyer when initiating this type of lawsuit.

As to laws preventing this type of lawsuit, well if they lose I believe they might be ordered to pay the other side's legal costs. This can be a large amount and is considered a bit of a deterrent.

What these idiots fail to realize is that all fast food companies provide nutritional information on request, which shows the world just how bad their food is for you, and the ones who sue are just too lazy to do maybe five to ten minutes' worth of research to find this out.

Remember when a woman sued McDonald's--and won--when she spilled coffee on herself? Her lame excuse was basically,"I didn't know their coffee was hot."

because they want money and have dont want to feel bad for eating all that grease and blame it on the restaurants. Nobody shoved it down their mouth and made them chew. It is stupid, and they should defentily stop suing. Maybe they just need money for liposuction , surgery! hehe

People do not want to take responsibility for their own actions, it is much easier to point the finger at someone else.

It's always easier to blame someone else than to take responsibility for your own actions.
