Sure, they do it inhumanely, as William says. NOT!

Most giraffes in captivity were born in captivity, and have been taught to follow simple commands of their handlers, not to tame them, but to make possible medical exams and treatment and transport. And yes, to keep the animal from experiencing too much stress and possibly hurting itself, they may need to use tranquilizers. This is a humane thing to do.

"So, how do you transport a 9-foot-tall giraffe? In a trailer similar to one transporting horses, though it has an extendable roof. The giraffe will be guided in and stand until the roof slowly is lowered.

"They don't like anything touching their heads so she'll eventually lay down," said Fleshman. There are periodic stops on longer trips during which the roof is cranked up to give the giraffe, like a human, a chance to stretch." (1)

Do a search on "transport giraffe zoo" and you will learn much more!

Large animals such as Elephants and Giraffes get transported usually in large trailers (with ventilation). if the animals are tame, they are given a drug to calm them, but not to have them fall asleep. The animal is sedated if it is wild and when the stress of travel would be to much for them. In emergancies, large animals are trasported as safetly as possible with helicopters.

Hmm, well I watched Madagascar and I figure its kinda like that. They get put into a big craight, put onto a trail hitched to a big truck and drive them away. They may even put them to sleep. What an interesting question.

You know, probably very inhumanely and while the animals are knocked out with tranqulizers so they lie still or whatever in the airplanes and buses and what not.
