They are normal - that is what they call braxton hicks contractions.... They are real contractions, but they are not regular - timeable for a while maybe, but then they cease.
Braxton hicks get you ready for the real thing --- they can happen up to 4-6 weeks ahead of actual labor (I think they happen all throughout your pregnancy, you just don't notice them so much earlier on in your pregnancy)
When the pains become a little more intense - regular and timeable (about 5 minutes apart) - I would suggest heading for the OB dept. at the hospital.
Good Luck!

false labor is really hard to figure out. I was always told, (mother of 3 here) that when they are 5 minutes apart for an hour, then head in. If you cannot walk or talk through them, go to the hospital. Always call labor and delivery if you have questions. Good Luck and congrats!

Sounds like braxton-hicks....although usually with your first baby they are hard to detect. The contraction feel like an uncomfortable tightning in the bottom of your stomach that spread to the top of the uterus and then releases. I wouldnt worry, but I would give my doc a call just for piece of mind. Cramping is also normal in late pregnancy due to stretching of the uterus and all the other changes your body goes through preparing for birth. Good luck.....and call your doc. At least speak with his nurse.

These cramps could be braxton hicks. I had them for several weeks before giving birth. If they get to be a couple of minutes apart, then definitely go to the hospital! Just keep timing them and keep your doctor updated. Congrats!

I think they are normal, but you should always consult with your doctor first. Its almost time for that little one to come into this world, but dont get panick.. I bet he/she is just getting itself comfortable and going down to get in place. When ever you feel lotssss of pressure like if you had to do the restroom then that is time to start pushing, other than that they are false labor signs, everyone goes thru this and they are normal. Congratulations!

They are more than likely Braxton-Hicks contractions (the body's way for preparing you for labor), but ask your doctor to be on the safe side.

Call your doctor.
They're most likely Braxton Hicks. If you can move positions, eat something or take a bath and they stop, it's not labor.
