One of them was a long range ICBM, but exploded after 40 seconds into flight. How should the United State's respond? More sanctions? At what point should we respond with a military pre-emptive strike?

Sanctions?
The country has no economy and over 2 million people have already starved to death. What else will Sanctions do to a country that is phasing out of existance?

Military?
North Korea has the 4th bigegst army in the world, a war on the continet would devastate the Korean peninsula and threaten Japan. Millions would potentially be killed. North Korea isnt Iraq, it is in the middle of a densly populated area. Any military strike would be countered with an invasion of South Korea.
And remember, China is N.Koreas ally. They have the worlds largest army, by far. This has the ability to go Nuclear, so military action should be last on our list

Respond through the UN, or reopen talks with China.

Why are you guys getting so upset with a country that has squat, can't build a missile that would even be a threat, and it is unable to carry any nuclear weapon they may possess!

You are wasting your time over N Korea or Iran. They are not threats to us!!

Bunch of Chest Pounders. I spent 29 months in Korea, 16 months close to the DMZ. We would have been the first to get wiped out if there was an attack.

They bang their chest, they posture and they shoot duds!! They have been doing that for over 50 years!!!!

I wonder what korean civilians are thinking that korea is provoking America after what we did in Iraq.

I think we should set up a battle strategy and tell Korea and the UN what we plan to do if Korea sends a missile that reaches the US. I would expect the US to shoot the missle down before it reaches here. In the event that Korea launches a strike against up, we should bomb their cities to ground and not give them any money to repair.

I think some countries wage war against the US because we spend money on repairing our damage.

Just remember Neville Chamberlain PM of England when the Nazi's came to power. Now...there's only an implied threat because the missle blew up basically on take off...the real threat occurs when they get it working properly. Act now or wait that's the question. No pre-emptive strike, no US action except to push our allies into action. Why is it that the US is always obliged to act--than scapegoated and reviled for the action regardless of possibly being right? Nah, the US shouldn't act it's up to the "UN"--our "allies" to do so.

the fact that they cant get a missile to last more than 40 seconds doesnt worry me too much about them hitting the US...but since the libbies never want to fight and iraq isnt going great, you gotta try diplomacy first. hopefully that is all it will take, cause we dont need another war...enough with them already! but at some point, you may need to flex the muscles. we cant let this crazy idiot keep testing rockets aimed in all directions. he's dillusional about how good of a golfer he is and also about how strong his POC country is.

I'm a little nervous about this. I am against all nuclear weapons in all countries including ours. The US military has done over a 1000 tests in the desert and people DO have health consequences from it like higher cancer rates, endometriosis, thyroid problems, infertility. Hope they resolve it and switch to non nuclear weapons.

I have to agree with those who support peemtive action when it's needed to avoid letting a rogue operation actually threaten the U.S.

Remember Israel's privately applauded, publicly condemned destruction of Iraq's nuclear facility a few years ago?

"Peace in our time" is still a rallying cry for cowards, and results in many more deaths than stopping the tyrant earlier.

You Americans are so arrogant, just talk to that dictator, find out what their intention is and convince him to stop building missiles.Look at the UN, don`t go and start another war, because you seem to be very good at that, that is why so many people hate America, including me.
