what are the pros and cons of firefox? can someone compare/constrast firefox and internet explorer for me?

i ended up downloading firefox, and now this website doesn't take forever to load stuff..........

Firefox is more secure, open source (which means anyone can look at and modify the code), and extensible (means someone can create or install an 'extension' that modifies how pages are loaded and errors are handled). Firefox also supports the HTML standard better than IE.

IE is none of these.

I don't mention tabbed browsing above because the new version of IE will be supporting this.

The main weakness of Firefox is that it only has (about) 10% of the market share for web browsers, meaning that only 10% of people on the web use Firefox. This means that most sites will develop applications (games, video displays, layouts) that are only supported in IE, but this is a weakness of the web pages, not of Firefox itself.

Internet Explorer is more polished than Firefox. It has every feature available on Firefox and then some (including tabbed browsing!). IE features listed here...

When Firefox first came out they said it was 'secure' because no one had written any spyware for it yet, but there is plenty of it now...

I prefer Internet explorer, but keep a Firefox browser installed, just in case.

firefox is faster and more secure and offers tab browsing
the one thing better about IE is there are alot more compatible web sites
there are quite a few web sites that wont work right with fire fox
a bad thing about IE is alot of viruses and things of that nature are made for IE since it so popular
