That's a really hard question to answer for those of us who've been around for more than 20 years because we've heard some really great voices that this younger generation hasn't. Here's a very minute sample of some artists who are worth listening to.
Female:
Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin, Barbara Streisand, Carmen McCray, Sarah Vaughn, Dinah Washington, June Christie, Billie Holiday, Julie London
Male:
Nat "King" Cole, Tony Bennett, Lou Rawls, Mel Torme, Frank Sinatra, Billy Eckstine, Joe Turner, Sam Cooke, Jackie Wilson, Tom Jones
Listen to those voices and then compare them with today's great singers and you'll see why it's hard to say who's "The Greatest."

I am a die hard metal lover, but the best singer to me was none other than Dean Martin. His voice, the easy way in which the song rolled out of him.
