hip hop is a culture that began in the bronx, ny. when a jamaican immigrant named hercules...aka...kool herc, started DJing out in the parks ina similar fashion as what jamaicans called toastin, where you talk over a beat or as it would later be known...to MC. It was mainly created because at that time there was no genre of music that spoke to the hearts and ears of those in the inner city, disco sucked and blues and jazz was dead, and rock was definitely not for them. hip hop consist of four elements: MCing, Djing, break dancing, and graffiti art. beat boxing is als considerdd the fifth physical element. Pioneers like grandmaster flash invented the mixer when he was trying to figure out a way to relay two turntable back and forth in order to reapeat a "break" or instrumental part of a record so MCs could rap or do battle amongst one another. Grand Wizard Theodore invented scratching. hip hop has mutated into what it is today now that corporate america has taken what is profitable from it and left everything else on the cutting room floor.
