my grandfather purchased this violin over 50 years ago from an elderly man who inhereted it from his great grand father. i need help!!

First of all, check the name. His name was Antonio. Then have it appraised.

Well, you should probably be aware that the chances of it being real are about as likely as a meteor hitting you when you leave for breakfast tomorrow. It would still be a good idea to have it appraised, even if it is not real. Then have it added to your home owners insurance policy.
If it is real, you feel nothing but envy from me.

Get it appraised but don't hold your breath. Every fiddle out there has a label on the inside with the name antonius stradavarius or some variation. Ten bucks says it's plywood.
