I heard they often do bloodwork and sometimes an ultrasound. Will those be done in the doctor's office or will I have to go to the hospital for that?

For me on my first visit the doctor asked me
lots of questions. They took my blood pressure and weighed me. They did a breast and pelvis exam and a pap smear.
I was 8 weeks and they did a trans vaginal ultrasound and I got to see the baby on the screen and see her little heart beating which
was wonderful! They took blood. This visit takes longer
than most other visits but it will go fine.

You don't usually get an ultrasound done at the doctor's office, unless they are in a building that specializes in mternal care only. You will get a total assessment, heart rate, bp, temperature, You will be asked to urinate in a bottle, You will probably be given a pelvic exam, and the doctor will fill outforms for bloodworks and an ultrasound. then he will sit you down and tell you about yournecessary deitary changes, and talk about your options if you don't want this baby. It should take about 20 minutes to half an hour. Good luck

You'll be pleased to know that mostly everything you can expect will take place in your doctor's office.

The nurse or receptionist will give you paperwork to fill out detailing your medical history and your medical insurance. They will take your blood pressure, your pulse, weigh you, and ask you for a urine sample.
You will be taken to a private room, given a gown and asked to completely undress and put the gown on. Your doctor will knock and then come in and introduce himself/herself and aske the reason for your visit. He/she will ask you the date of your last period and other pertinent medical information.
He/she will use a stethescope to listen to your heart and respiration.

After that, you will then be asked to lay back on the examining table, and 'scoot' towards the bottom of the table and place your feet into the stirrups on either side of the table. The doctor will then proceed to do both a breast exam (to check for abnormalities) and a pelvic exam to determine how far along in your pregnancy you are. Based on the date of your period and your examination, the doctor will be able to tell you the expected due date. I don't remember exactly, but I believe they that when the doctor does the pelvic exam, he will also do a 'pap smear' at the same time. (Not really painful, just a little uncomfortable)

All of this is done at the doctor's office. After your appointment is finished, the nurse/receptionist will schedule you for your next appt, which will be in another month.
Any blood/lab work that you need to have done will be done over at the hospital, and they will send the results to your doctor.

Congratulations & Good Luck!

They will do bloodwork and a few other tests ( nothing scary), you will not get an ultrasound till probably 4 months pregnant.. Usually everything can be done in the doctors office- sometimes blood drawing is done in the hospital.

At your first appointment you can expect them to do an internal exam, a breast exam, blood work, and weight/height measuring. They will also ask you questions on family medical history. That's about all. Nothing too painful. But all necessary. It depends on the dr. you see as to if they do an ultrasound that day or schedule one at a later time. It also depends on if the office is eqipped with the equipment necessary for an ultrasound, if not they will send you to the hospital for that.

At my first checkup they did bloodwork, an internal examination, and listened for a heartbeat. That was all done in the doctors office. They will also want to know family medical history. Good luck, hope all goes well....

Lots of OBGYNs have their own ultrasounds and do labwork there, so you probably won't have to go anywhere else. They'll ask you all kinds of questions about your medical history. You'll might spend most of your time actually in the doctor's office rather than in the exam room. Enjoy yourself! At the very least you'll get to hear the heartbeat and will be so amazed!

To be honest with you...don't expect too much. On your first visit they will confirm pregnancy, usually with a urine sample. They may order blood work too. They will tell you your due date, and ask you if you have any questions...if you do be honest and ask them. You might be able to hear the baby's heartbeat if you are far enough along. They will tell you to come back in 1 month, and you go every month until you're about 30-32 weeks, then it's every 2 weeks, and then every week until the baby is born.

Don't be afraid to ask questions, you'll feel better if you ask them.

Good luck and congratulations!!

You will have bloodwork, they will also check your urine, and you will have an ultrasound (vaginally) to see how far along you are. You will be able to do all this at your doctors office. Good luck!
