It can be. It's very risky. Sadly, a lot of people use the internet to pretend to be someone they are not. Sometimes they lie about their age, sometimes they lie about who they are and where they live, sometimes men even pretend to be women or vice versa! And at the worst extreme, there truly are some real sick predators out there who intend to hurt people, and who target women and children in particular.
Every now and then a little casual chat can't hurt, as long as you keep it at that level. Where it begins to get dangerous and where people can get hurt very badly is when you start getting attached to someone and start thinking they are a good friend when you have never investigated who they really are or met them in person. Never, ever give personal information about yourself out over the internet or get emotionally attached to someone you have met over the internet unless you have been able to investigate and find out who the person is, or your parents have been able to do this for you. The internet is a wonderful tool, but we all must use it safely.

Its not bad.....just be careful. You say you really like this perso....but..in reality..you dont really know this person. You know what they have told you about themselves and thats what you really like.. Too many people get caught up in being told what they want to hear..instead of the truth.....Make sure not to give personal information out....talking to and making friends is a great outlet. It allows you to release feelings and to say things that you wouldn't normally say because you feel safe. But be careful not to give out too much. Those stories you read about kids being abducted or hurt by someone they met on the internet...are more than just stories.....its real....and it can happen to anyone. So have fun..meet people...but play safe please....I'm a mom...and I tell my kids the same thing.

well, if you really like someone and your entire relationship is derived from just being on the internet, that becomes very complicated and easily distorted. That being said, I have a cousin who talked to an Irish man and he eventually moved over to the states and they've been married for a while, actually.
I just say that you should practice caution, patience, and don't become too involved (as far as that really goes) with someone before you even get to meet them.

I met my fiancee online 7 years ago. You just have to be careful. There are good and bad people on the net. Take some time to get to know them and be friends.

I am not sure if I understand the question.
Wouldn't you already be chatting with them prior to liking them?
No, it isn't a bad thing. It happens all the time.
Are you married? Attached? etc?
