The price. That's about it. If you really looked into the company and stuff, you'd probably find out they're made by the same people that are just trying to make the most money possible by targeting all levels of shoppers.

basically you get what you pay for. Dept stores have better quality, but its also based on how much you care about the make-up you wear, Im a makeup addict, I mean I dont wear a lot, but I love make-up, I wear MAC, so I have to get it at Macys, so yeah its pricier but to me its worth it, that and I don't buy it that often, trust me, your bound to spend that money regardless, why not put in into an investment, I mean this stuff goes on your face, you only get once face, why be cheap about it? But its all up to you and your budget and what you like.... I have tons of walmart make-up too, its the makeup I use when Im just going to the store or not really getting glammed up... Try the different ones out and see what it is you like best!

your skin will see a difference in about 5 years.
If you're in your teens, it's a lot easier to use the cheap stuff cause you don't have $$ to waste on makeup/moisturizers, etc...
I started using ONLY powder and foundation from the 'counters' and got all my 'color' makup at regular stores like walgreens and walmart, but as i'm getting older, I need moisturizers that I KNOW will make a difference, that don't sting my face and that are personalized to my skin tone, etc..... so I use the stuff that costs $$$... and I've found that I spend less money, because the products I buy actually WORK, so I only buy one, instead of like 5.
go to a counter when they're not busy and when they're not trying to push products on you... talk to them.. tell them you're on a budget and see what products you 'need' and which you can do without (your eyeshadows and liners you can probably just get at a reg store). I am in LOVE with lancome mascara...it's like 20 bucks, but when you think about the fact that you're spending 10 on a crappy mascara, why not spend teh extra dollars and get a product that kicks A**?!?!?
my favorite is flextensils and hypnose (flextensils makes your lashes long and pretty and does NOT clump.. and hypnose gives you eyelashes that look like you're wearing false lashes...very glam and very fun for going out!!!)
I love clinique foundation and powder.. it's light and feels clean.
IF YOU DON'T NEED FOUNDATION AND POWDER, DON'T USE IT!!

Well, you can find great makeup at Walmart, but some department store makeup, such as Clinique and Mack, are of better quality. They are better because they are made with better ingredients. Some make-ups that you find in regular stores may not last as long or they do not always have enough shades to choose from that will match your skin tone. One cheaper makeup that I have found to be good is called Isadora. It can be found at Walgreens. I really like their eye shadow and lip gloss. It is a few dollars more than your Max Factor and Loreal, but it is worth it.

There isn't always. You can find some very good products in different lines at Wal-Mart, along with some horrible ones. Same way for almost any department store line.

Department store cosmetics have WAY more pigment in them, which makes them look richer and more luxurious. They may be more expensive, but the makeup is more quality-made. I would recommend getting department store cosmetics over cheapies any day. However, I definitely won't 'knock' L'Oreal and Revlon, and Almay as those are all very good brands. I just wouldn't recommend those brands for every day use, as they're not made as well. Hope this helps! :)

There isn't really too much of a difference. Because wal-mart has all of the brand names that you might find at departmant stores. I use wal-mart makeup and I must say I LOOK GOOD!

Wal-mart carries all the name brands of makeup. When I checked different brands the only difference is the price that Wal-mart charges. Wal-mart does not make it own makeup.

There is nothing different excerpt the size of your pocket! with big mony you could buy dept. store make up and with small money you can buy cheap wall mart make up. If you don't find a difference it is okay because it will make your life smooth and hassle free. Because once you try to superior to someone it starts creating problems.

I don't know the technical answer, but when I switched to department store make-up I definitely noticed a difference. It goes on smoother and stays on longer. Plus it seems to have a positive effect on my skin. I have less breaks out and my skin tone is more even. Hope that helps.
