It certainly was the defining moment when he was sent off. i do not believe anyone who cannot control his temper should play at international level , however talented he may be. Remember Soccer is a team game which has no place for prima ballerinas

I don't know that anyone can say that had Rooney's temper not gotten the best of him that England would certainly have won the game especially given Beckham having incurred an unfortunate injury but it certainly didn't help. Hopefully it will be a question that stays with him though and serves as motivation to get his temper under control. No one can dispute his being a good player and it would be really great to see him use that passion in his play in a more productive way.

I think it was definately a component. There was also mismanagement on Sven's side as well. Rooney really should have been paired with another striker.
But, who knows. It's another case of a ref deciding a match. England definately played better football than Portugal - it was their first enjoyable match. Portugal couldn't even score on a 10 man team for 60 minutes. Based on that, I think Portugal will be going out of the WC really soon.

No England weren't good enough simple as that. They never looked like a team who could win the World Cup and although he was foolish he didn't cost them a place. And how many goals has Rooney scored for England? Enough said

Well it was only a matter of time before he had another temper tantrum and got him self sent off,
The team played pretty poorly through out the whole tournament so even if they had gotten through to the semi's I doubt if they would have gotten much further. So you cant really say it was just his stupid action that was the cause of the team flying home early. It is a sort of tradition really, the football team only won in 1966 by chance and it will never happen again.

It wasn't Rooney's fault that England didn't get through and it wasn't Ronaldos either. Rooney should've been sent off.
It was Erikssons fault for not taking a 5th Striker, England's tactics were poor and he didn't have a plan B. Sending on a Giraffe doesn't work and nor does having a child on the bench!

No their tactics throughout were crap and they were one paced. Too many of the players did not play to their potential and guys like Lampard looked completely knackered. It would be wrong to shoulder Rooney for the blame because of one incident and Ronaldo cannot walk away from that pleading innocence after the role he played. Dont care what the referee says as no referee is stupid enough to say he sent a player off because another asked him to. When you watch the incident it never looked like the referee considered a red card until Ronaldo's intervention so hopefully some French defender will kick his goolies up his jacksie tonight.

Id say NO! As England after Rooney's red card played at there best ,making sure that Portugal did not score. It was Ronaldo that got Ronney sent off, not his football. The fact that we always lose in penalties FACT! Its been proven:
*1990 Germany vs England Penalties LOST (World Cup, 1990, Italy)
*1996 Gemany vs England LOST (Euro 1996, England)
*1998 Argentina vs England LOST(World Cup, 1998, France)
*2004 Portugal vs England LOST (Euro 2004, Portugal)
The Latest Addition:
*2006 Portugal vs England LOST (World Cup, 2006, Germany)
The basics:
*Were rubish at penelties full stop!
*Ricardo the portugal goalkeeper specilises in penalty and shotstopping saves!
Nutshell:
We will have never won a penalty shoot out!

Rooney needs to grow up, a lot. England might have stood a better chance with 11 men on the pitch. (and a proper manager)

Nope
It was the Referee who didnt award a free kick to Rooney. If the free kick was awarded Rooney would still have been on the pitch

Possibly, but I'm not going to villify him for it, I'm just going to wait for the new Premiership season to begin, and enjoy watching Chelsea.
I'm not bothered about the World Cup anymore, and whoever wins today's match, the Final is going to be boring in my opinion anyway. If it's Italy V Portugal, the whole match will be cheating, and diving. And Italy V France just doesn't sound like a great set-up to me either.
