I'm talking like the 1800's and back... Were STD's a problem? Did they use protection when they had sex? Was it invented yet? Did they just have sex when they wanted a baby? What did woman do about their periods back then? Were things like pads, tampons around? I've always been curious on this stuff. And I mean I'm not going to ask my history teacher this! I don't even know what he'd say!
Any info please say! Awesome. Thanks!

Try historical female reproductive problems or medical treatments before and after websites. I do know that in the olden days (1700s up) women died from STDs like gonorrhea. They went literally crazy and lost hair over syphillis and there was no form of contraception except - don't do it if you don't want to get pregnant sort of thing. Back then, women used napkins like table napkin clothes during their periods and usually used a safety pin to keep it in place in their panties. There were no such things like tampons and napkins then. Also you can try out the websites of products like tampons and napkins, they usually have info regarding history of this sort.

STDs were a problem, but not as big a one as they are today. Back then, most people only had one partner their entire life.
Tampons date back all the way back to the time of the Pharaohs. Egyptian woman would stuff cotton balls into their vagina to catch the "blood". Wash cloth like "pads" were also used.

Condoms have been around for hundreds of years but they used Sheep stomach, yuk, My grandmother just used old rags and then throw them away. Hence " being on the rag". Your body puts off signs when its close to the time when a woman can get pregnant women of old tried to keep track of this but if they did get pregnant it wasn't a problem because most were married. And yes STD's, but it would only affect those who were ether born with it or those who slept around or were with someone that had slept around.

Do some research and find out. There has to be a book about the history of sex. I don't think they used protection, because they had very large families.

I suggest you look thru the "arts" of Alfred Kinsey. He is a famous sex researcher, who was alive in the "old days" Do a google search on the Kinsey Institute, and ask your question there.
