Assessment happens to determine what instruction is needed.
To determine where to place the student, what their current skills are and where they should start (like in basic arithmetic, algebra or calculus?) Assessment is often some sort of test.
Next comes the curriculum, which is a set of things to be taught, what is included in what should be taught, like what is in the book. What lab activities. Like what set of courses do you have to complete (for example to become a nurse or welder what do you need to know)
Instruction is what happens to teach you that material. It is a presentation of that material to you. By a human, computer, videotape, etc. It is how that curriculum material is transmitted to you.
Then comes assessment again (often called evaluation here) to check and see if you learned it. This is also often a test.
