I think you mean headphones or loudspeakers. I play mp3s over my stereo system through loudspeakers and sometimes listen to my stereo system (mp3s, cds, FM, movies) through headphones. I like the stereo separation of headphones, but (as you pointed our) loudspeakers can give you the feel of the bass. After a while, my ears get tired of wearing any kind of headphones, but that's all I can use in lots of places.
If you meant compressed (mp3) or uncompressed media, most music I can enjoy either way, so mp3 wins because of the smaller size for downloading and storing.

Just to be awkward, AAC as it is near CD quality and smaller than mp3. Put it on an ipod and using itrip and you have your entire music collection in good quality. don't drop it though, then you are screwed.

I choose my Ipod, packed with high quality AAC files, docked to my stereo, blasting 250 watts off musical goodness into my neighborhood.

id definatly choose my mp3...that way i can listen t what i want:)...if uv gt an mp3 u should try www.imesh.com it had loads of songs on there....if u dnt already know that one:)
