Yes. Stop being over protective. This isn't going to 'deflower' her so lighten up and let your kid have fun. At least she's into sports unlike some fat-*** teens...You should do everything to support her interest in sports and her transition into womanhood. Don't be over protective or she'll grow up and rebel.

WTF is with these idiots saying "Not if she hasn't had her period". WTF? Why would you even use a tampon if you haven't had your period. God, some people are so STUPID.

Good Luck

If she's having her period then YES get her playtex slim-fits since she is young. Here is the thing, tampons have nothing to do with sex/ virginity. For those who are quick to holler NO because of her age, please remember she could very well stick a finger up there if she wanted to, so I don't get why all these other people are against tampons as far as the child using it for swimming during her period. She shouldn't feel as though becoming a "woman" and having your period should keep you from enjoying what you love to do ... in this case, swimming. Therefore protecting her from the embarassment of bleeding in a pool, allowing her to continue with life the way she always did even though she is going through the changes of becoming a woman, and helping her to not feel self-conscious / embarassed about these changes is a perfectly fine thing to do. It's like saying you have a 9 year old who's developed larger breasts than the norm ... what, you wouldn't let her wear a bra because it's considered sexy lingerie. NO if she needs it, then let her use it. There's no specific age for things like this ... when mother nature says its time, you deal with it. As a mother it is important to show her how to use it correctly and to remind her to change it often, as she is a child and is not as responsible as let's say a 15 year old girl. Failure to properly educate her could lead to infection, etc ... and you don't want that at all.

My sister just had to start letting my 10 y/o niece use them for swimming lessons. Now, I'm facing that question with my 12 y/o daughter for her camp field trips to the beach. Do I let her use a tampon? Or do I torture her by not letting her swim at the beach because she's using a pad and she gets to see all her frinds have fun in the water while she can only go in up to her knees?
Let her use them but stress to her that it is for swimming only.
Just don't let her go on any really fast water slides with one - baaaaaaad experience!

There are specially designed tampons for first time users. I started using them at 13 and it was fairly easy. Just get "Junior" or "slim" fit so that it is more comfortable. If she wants to try it go ahead and let her. I dont know what is up all these other people's butts. She isnt going to lose her virginity. The only way to lose someones virginity is to HAVE SEX...not use a effing tampon.

If she's having her period... Then yes. I was on swim team, and had to swim EVERY day at that point... I might have been 11 though... The whole thing is DONT PUSH her. Let her know the decision is hers to make, but if she wants to swim then thats what she will have to do. I would hide in the locker room so I didnt have to deal with it.

I am 14, and i have a friend who got her period when she was 9 and was in swim at 10. She started to use tampons, and she still does. And forthe people that say "oh well if you use tampons, you cant be a virgin." well being a virgin means having sexual intercourse. Not using tampons. So, talk to her, and ask if she would feel comortable wearing them.

She has her period already? I got mine when I was twelve, but didn't use a tampon untill I was 14. I think I was scared it would hurt or something.

Do not listen to that person who said wait untill after sex. That is ridiculous. Tampons and penises feel nothing a like. At that rate she could be a 40 year old virgin walking around with annoyingly bulky pads.

tampons don't have anything to do with swimming, and at 10 years old, I doubt very much shes started her period. Theres no need for tampons until she's around the age of 14, then if she decides for herself what to use...she will net you know.

Some of the people who answer these questions amaze me! The thing to do is call her doctor and see what they say, I say no she is a bit young but maybe you could with the advice of her pediatrician let her use them only while swimming, 10 is very young but that doesn't mean she's to young just OK with her doctor

Only if you feel that she is responsible enough for a tampon. YOu have to show her and teach her the difference, let her know how important it is to remove them on-time, and let her know that if she feels uncomfortable with them to take it out.

Use the JR tampons made for younger girls.

And let her also know that using this product with no in any way damager her virginity and that it is no ones concern if she uses them or not except you and her.

I would have to say no. I was 10 when I got my period and I could not use them at that age. To avoid the humiliation and physical pain of trying over and over to use it, I think that she would be better off waiting until she's older. Try not to let her grow up too fast. From personal experience, having your period at 10 seems to give you more of an adult status with those around you. However, if you grow up too quick, you get into trouble. Just try to ease her into the adult role slowly. :)
