Could it be becuase we put them on reservations away from everyone else? They are not really a part of our society where they can claim discrimation and poor treatment.
No one was more poorly treated than native americans. We stole their land, tried to destroy their way of living, tried to destroy their beliefs and culture. Many of them are suffering.
Why aren't they whining for extra-special treatment?

Despite what you may believe a lot of us do not live on or have ever lived on a reservation. It is a very small percentage of us that actually have ownership in a casino. You'll only hear about all the bad stuff but many of us (myself my brothers sisters cousins are the first in our family to not have full Native American blood.) have good jobs, own our own businesses and do well in society without hand outs. It's just like with ANY other race, people are people in the end and you have your whiners, racists, idiots and generally awful people. I think a lot of people get jealous because they think that Native Americans have casinos and college educations handed to them at birth! Well that is not the case. The only part of any casino I own is through stock that was purchased with money that I earned at a job that I was able to get from the education that I paid for. Ignorance and Intolerance are the reason why we have prejudice in our society and hundreds of years ago most of my ancestors families were slaughtered because they did not believe the same way that these people did that came to this land. Ironically these murderous people came here for religious freedom. These people came and took without asking killed without conscience, they were the for fathers of this country and they stole the ability for future generations of Native Americans to thrive and that is why reparations are being called for by Native Americans.

Wow I see an awful lot of answers from white folks whose sole experience with a First Nations person is Tonto the Lone Rangers sidekick. I have lived on a reserve and lived off reserve with the people. One thing that is important is that they are NOT in any way shape or form INDIANS...cus they weren't born in India (d'uh)

Dr Tandem and mini Stef among others are greatly misguided in their understanding of the people. Jeesh people are so ignorant.

Someone mentioned that the word whining has a negative connotation and I'll agree there. Most activism is done through peaceful means by educated people. Yes it sometimes spills over into violence but it has been my findings that most of the time the violence doesn't actually breakout until the first white guy chucks a beer bottle at a protesting Aboriginal.

If any one of these people who've answered here spent even an hour among the people I expect they'd change their twisted minds.

Ah my little fazed fairy ...yes for shame on me for I learned nothing more than a truth

Oh, you mean American Indians, not native Americans. A native American is anyone born in America.

American Indians do receive special treatment. Visit California for an example. All the Las Vegas-style casinos there are owned by American Indians. No other citizens in California are allowed to do that.

Now, get over the past and improve the future.

when i was in high school we had a native american woman come in to speak to us about her people's history and culture. . .but she ended up breaking out into telling us about how evil we all were and how we give them bad healthcare. . .ugh. . .i don't even care anymore. . .all the people that were involved in taking their land are dead now. . .we give them thier own pieces of land to do whatever the heck they want with it and free healthcare. but i'm so sick of this debate. . .indian casinos that exist in reservations MAKE MONEY. . .that money will often times be distributed among native american families in that reservation that need it. . .they're living life pretty easy now-a-days. . .considering if they had never met us they would still be sitting around a tent and fire getting sick and not buidling an economy, manufacturing electronics, or using electricity due to their tradionalistic habits. . .yes we took alot of their land from them and yes, i agree that was wrong. . .but it was so long ago, and complaining about it now is stupid. . .

if indians and black people think they deserve so much from us then it would seem necessary that we receive reparations from great britain. . .i mean, countries and world leaders make bad choices and do bad things. . .it happens. . .but since it happened so long ago any complaints about it now in present day is pointless. . .just go on about your life and live it as best you can. . .there are TONS of current problems that need sorting out and yet people just want to keep bitching about the past. . .GROW THE HELL UP!

and by the way, no one has been more poorly treated then the jewish community. . .

I don't know where you're from, but over here in Quebec, they are whining a lot. They don't pay tax, they don't pay electricity, they don't work, they have no job but have a 2600$ clear of tax every month, no white police on their reserves, if government needs to do something in their reserves they have to ask for permission. And I'm a cop in a city where there's a lot of them, they always complain about their native rights. They are always drunk ( beers that they bought over my taxes ) and fighting. They think that everything is due to them because of history.

They already whined, and they still do. Come on, don't you pay attention to the news stories about American Indians being offended because schools use them for mascot symbols? Whiners. They should be complimented by such use, not offended.

Also, take a trip to an Indian reservation. It sure doesn't look like they care too much about their ancestors land. Their reservations look like dumps.

Being a Native American half breed...I can tell you why. Pride and Honor. Probably the last race that still holds something sacred that doesn't have monetary value...all people close to the earth included of course. Though most of our native young are going astray hard and fast...nothing is forever, except change.

Whining isn't a good word because that implies the behavior is childish and unwarranted.

Tribal leaders do fight for some things, but nothign short of restoring their home lands will make up for the damage. Since the government can't sieze tens of thousands of acres of citizens lands to do this, they're stuck.

You have not notice the type of censorship that comes across mainstream media! We all whine/complain its human nature "life sucks and then you die" hows that sound!
