if you go to Catalina the water is clear you can see the ground and that's part of California. theres two kinds of people in the world, you either love California or you don't. if you love it you know how to relax. California is on their own pace. yeah yeah we like money and we work to much but so does the rest of the country. the only difference is we live in a state where we can go swimming in the ocean skiing in the mtns hiking in the desert and never have to leave the state. plus we are the most diverse free thinking state out there. if you don't like it move. i love to shop i love to swim i love to party i love to go to Disneyland, i wouldn't live anywhere else.
and we have our problems yes we have drugs but not nearly as much as Miami does we have blondes but most are fake and the mid west has way more then we can reproduce lot of our beaches our dirty but have you been a beach in the U.S. that isn't that has a 1000+ tourist a year i think not and yes the water is colder but the pacific ocean is colder then the Atlantic that's why we don't get hurricanes.
and honestly i would rather live through a earthquake any day compared to a hurricane or tornado.

My fiancee's family lives in Los Angeles and we travel there at least three times a year. I love to visit but for practical reasons I am glad I don't live there. The cost of living is much higher than anywhere else I have ever been. I appreciate the diversity that you can only get in LA, though. I live in Texas and it is so quiet and suburban here. LA is energetic and laid back at the same time. I loved the San Francisco Bay Area as well, except for the steep roads. And San Diego was great. The people there were so friendly. All of the beaches I went to and/or saw had clean blue water. If you want to see dirty water you should visit Galveston, Tx. Anyways...thats my opinion! =)

I love California. I live here and I think we have some of the best weather in the country. It is beautiful and I can't imagine living anywhere else. I don't really recall any commercials about our ocean water. Some beaches are cleaner than others of course. That is one of the drawbacks of living in a state with such a large population.

I do.
I moved to San Diego from Honolulu, Hawaii. Everyone said that it was beautiful here, and the water was awesome... Well I think who ever said that was swimming on an MGM set. Because I have yet to see, any water here that doesn't look like a fish tank way over due for a cleaning!!

Born and raised, our water does suck but what can we do? For the most part, I like it here. I could care less about the "keeping up with the jones'" attitude, but other than that, good place to live. Lots of opportunity but I wouldn't want to retire here. Too much traffick

I think it's what you make of it everywhere you go. There is a lot of diversity. There is good and bad, just like everywhere else.
Now you know commercials are fake - you learned it in CA!

not to mention the water is freezing...I still can not get into it. When I do after the inital numbness goes away then I am all itchy from the sand that seems to be in the water.
