Christianity is a very egocentric religion. It teaches that Christ is the only way to salvation, and it makes its followers very smug about their beliefs and practices. It also makes them feel they have a right to force their religion on the rest of us, that they have a divine mission to convert us. Nothing, however, has effed up the world as much as Christianity has. Indeed, Christians have become so arrogant that they have gone way beyond Christ's original teachings, and they no longer exhibit the love and acceptance that was part of the original Christian doctrine. Christianity, I feared, has outlived its usefulness to the world.

I think it is unfair to say that Christians are lacking in intelligence or they are all arrogant. People are arrogant, ignorant, no matter what religion they claim. Simply, some people do not have the capacity to think as others do that's why we need good leaders. Believe that Jesus was a great man and if he were here today many of the Christian leaders would not look him in the face and many changes would be made. It's a sad day in history that Jesus' life and work is being discredited because of people who claim to be his follower's. The truth is the way and when a religion is based around lies you can expect just about anything. What is is not what Jesus intended.

Good question.
The issue always comes down to Jesus.
If Jesus is who he says he is, then he is right and all other religions are wrong. If Jesus is not who he says he is then Christianity is a sham and another religion may be right.
For me, the resurrection is HUGE. If he didn't rise from the dead, then Christians are to be pitied more than all people. If he did rise, than...
Here are a couple good, brief books worth checking out. By the way, I was once an atheist, just like the author of these books. These are really good and well accepted books in Christian circles.
Hope this helps, and yes, some Christians responses on Yahoo are very immature.
Peace.

arrogance is bred by ignorance and just like when a smoker or drinker quits drinking or smoking, the same psychological phenomena occurs where they feel the need to "convert" everyone else in order to psychologically cement their choices and their beliefs. Most Christians do not ever learn about the history of their own religion and take the word of what I like to call a "wizard." meaning someone they give all of their trust and understanding to as in a preacher, pastor or clergyman who in most cases fail to adequately explain the reason why they believe what they do. Christianity has its roots more in Judaism than anyone might realize not to mention its foundations were of more a political nature than they ever were a godly one. Tolerance however is a hard thing and a person has to be secure enough with their own beliefs to be able to handle having it challenged and disputed, most people simply do not educate themselves enough on their own foundations. It is a kind of lemming situation and fanaticism is often an unfortunate by-product. I have a bumper sticker on my truck which reads; "Dear Lord I pray you save me from you followers." And I am what could be considered to be a "christian."as far as what I do believe, I do not attend any kind of organized church for a reason... I also like to say, don't blame the religion or the God blame the idiot who decided to initiate themselves into it. Religion is a club and unfortunately anyone can join...there is no screening process. much like childbirth and driving, it takes so much less understanding and effort to belong to these things than it should.

I am so sorry that you have had that kind of experience with Christians. I hope that you haven't actually surveyed the majority of Christians because I truly don't believe that we are all arrogant about our beliefs. I don't consider myself a religious person, I am a Christian, a follower of Jesus Christ. Religion is a completely diffrent thing. I believe in love, equality, peace, service to my fellow man, loving my neighbors, and the salvation through faith in Christ's sacrifice of his life for the covering of my sins. I do not consider myself to be a Jesus "nut" but I guess if you want to call it that then okay. Everyone believes something, even if they choose not to believe in any higher being. The only way anyone will know for certain that their beliefs, or religion if you will is "the" one is when they die and they move on to the next place. For me it will be heaven because I trust in my belief. One day you too will have your answer. Good luck and God bless you.

I've met both ends of the spectrum. I've had Christian friends who were dedicated and strongly religious. However, they kept this to themselves. They were more concerned with their studies, their religion, and their salvation.
Then I had several Christian friends in high school who were at the other end. The speaking in tongues, laying on hands, this close from rattle snakes Christians. These friends were the ones that always tried to convert me and said they were concerned about my soul. They told me that my mom was going to go to hell and live a life of torment because she was a Buddhist. I attended Sunday school with a friend once. I didn't know anyone else and they singled me out in class and asked, "So, how does it feel to know you are going to hell?" These are also the people that tell me that prayer and Jesus will cure all- help me get pregnant, help me get a job, help me with my marriage. I've met plenty of devout Christians who prayed, went to church 4 times a week, and studied scripture. They still led miserable lives.
So, the majority of the Christians are not arrogant, but there are some that are. Sometimes, I think of the pearly gates as one of those Subway cards. For every person you convert, you get your card punched. 10 punches and you get into Heaven for free. Maybe all the people you meet on this site are running short on this quota. (I say this in jest everyone. Don't send me hate mail).
I have always had a different question plague my thoughts. Why don't other religions advertise like Christianity? No Buddhists go door to door, asking if I've found Buddha. Hindus don't approach me in the gas station parking lot and hand me literature about Ganesh. Now, those damn Confucianists send me short messages every time I try to enjoy take-out and egg rolls. They are the most aggressive! Think of every fortune cookie!

If arrogance is what Christians display, this is sad. Jesus, who claimed to be the Creator God in the flesh, did not set such an example.
The Bible does teach that the only way to heaven, and to eternal life, is through Jesus Christ, as Jesus himself claimed. Since the Old Testament prophesied about the Messiah many, many times over - and since Jesus totally and accurately fulfilled ALL of the prophesies (which is nearly mathematically impossible!) the words he speaks have credibility. And then after the result of his resurrection from the dead, proof of who he claimed to be, his words have authority. So when he says he is the only way to God - his words have credibility. If you believe this, and thus do not accept any other claims from other religious beliefs or sects, perhaps this would be seen as arrogance.
Jesus left his followers to be examples of who he was. Christians are commanded to be imitators of God. And thus if Jesus is God in the flesh, they ought to be exemplifying love, compassion, forgiveness, understanding, and god-likeness.
Sorry if your experience with Christians has been a negative one. That's why we always point people to Christ and not the Christian...

That is a pretty broad statement. 1st the Christian faith is just as varied as the Muslims. That is like saying that all Muslims are not peaceful. My family is Mennonite and they are pacifists. Unfortunately the loudist Christians tend to be the most uneducated. Personally I went to Europe to study theology and I have also studied other subjects in secular colleges so I think I am fairly educated about my religion. I at least know what I believe, can't speak for everyone else. Please don't judge all Christians based on the people on Yahoo Answers.

Christianity is a religion of conquest. It has been responsible for more deaths than any other religion to ever exist. As such, it is a large attractor for those who would see the world as theirs to shape and control. Why don't these people look beyond the canned answers they give? Because they don't WANT to. The simple answer that everything they do is by the direction of, and for the glory of, a God allows them autonomy of action. So long as they operate within that "code", they are relieved of any personal responsibilty for what they do. The real question is "How long are we going to idly stand by and allow such conduct?" Make no mistake, like so many others, this is a conquered nation under the rule of religious fanatacism and propoganda. I think we need to stop asking why they do it, and start asking what we are going to do to stop it.

When you say a majority of Christians, who are you talking about exactly? There are many people who go to church to meet the status quo, it's so people will see them at church. Those people aren't true Christians. I think if you were to meet someone like say, Mother Theresa, you might not see Christians as people who are "lacking any sort of real intelligence". I am not saying there are tons of Mother Theresas out there, but there are good honest faithful people around who have examined their paths and made their religious choice with intelligence and thoughtfulness. The other "peaceful religions" out there all have had their share of war and corruption, too. The real answer to your question is that in every part of the world, and with people of all walks of life, we all sin. Arrogance is a sin, pride is a sin, and judging others about their religious preferences is a sin. I am a sinner, you are a sinner. I am humbled and embarrassed that Jesus had to die for my sins. I am not proud of my sins, and I am grateful that God loved me enough to send His Son to this earth so that I could live eternally in His Heaven. John 3:16 - "For God so loved the Earth that he gave his only Begotten Son so that whoever shall believe in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life." God even loves those who don't believe.

I am Buddhist but have been assumed as a Christian by other Christians. I do respect Christianity but I only ask Christians to keep in mind that there are other religions as well. I am living in the US and for some reasons, people assume that everybody is Christian. There has been a woman whom I do not know talked to me about how God created only Adam and Eve, therefore there is no such thing as gay. I had been preached by a Christian priest even though I told him that I am not Christian and have no wish to convert, but he kept insisting on letting me know what Christianity is by telling me about sins and how I would be purnished if I lie. I felt deeply offended because they made it seems like my religion does not matter.
