No, it's never too late to STUDY dancing, but it would be too late to aim for a professional performance career (outside of ballroom, I guess).
No one has yet answered your second question. The kind of dancing that is lost forever is ballet with proper "turnout" - which is proper hip rotation. That is because young ballet dancers must develop that turnout while their bones are still developing. Other forms of dance rely on that turnout as well, which is why most forms of professional dance are ruled out for you. However, you could still dance for fun without turnout; you just won't have the optimum mobility and flexibility.

Lets be honest here Dancing for dancing with friends or on TV, you have a chance. Ballet, you should throw in the towel right now.
Are you a taller girl, then Dancing classes may really fix some awkward movement issues.
There's no reason you can't learn to Dance at 20, 30, 40, 50 & eve, 60. You'll have decades to show what you've learned. Go for it.

No, not at all!!! I started dancing when I was 13. I had to quit when I was 19 because my parents couldn't afford it anymore. It was heart breaking because I love to dance. After I go married and was expecting my first and only child at age 27, I took ballet again for the exercise from the same teacher I had before. After I had my son I quit again, but I started back two years ago at age 31. I take ballet and point and I'm also a Tap teacher. I hope that God will let me dance for many years to come. If you love dancing as much as I do then go for it. Do something that helps you physically and makes you very happy. I hope everything works out for you. God Bless :)

I took my first ballet class when I was 18. Yes I do think it's too late to dance ballet professionally, but I still dance no matter what. However, dancing in theater productions and competitions is definitely not lost.
Go for it, whatever style you want. It's going to be a challenege but don't give up, otherwise you'll live your life wondering, what if.
Good Luck!

depends what you want to do with the dancing! if it si for fun or exercise then go for it, its never too late. if it is for a career then you should get a professional opinion from someone who will give you a truthful answer. good luck whichever it is.
As for lost dancing, with the success of shows like strictly come dancing and dance fever, all dancing seems to be making a comeback but dances like the charleston are unlikelt to ever be as popular as they once were!

I'm not tell ing you my age, but I just finished a tap recital with 4 other adults. It is So much fun! Tomorrow we sign up for a new year. This year I want to take ballet, also, so I can stretch my legs alot. I can use a 'bar', if I take a class, that I wouldn't have at home. But I'm exited about tap again, too. I play the fiddle, the guitar, I sing. It is NEVER too late to learn something new. I ALWAYS wanted to tap, and NOW, BY GOSH, I'm doing it!!!!

No You are still at a good age to do any thing you want. I started to dance at the age of 19 and by the age of 25 I was a great dancer. Really great. Do alot of stretches and excercise and you will find yourself more flexable for learning any dance rotine.

it will be very hard to become a ballerina because of the training it takes (even those who start young have a slim chance of being a prima ballerina), but if you're looking into other careers (back-up dancer, modern dancer, dance teacher) it is definitely possible if you spend enough time and have the passion for it. i would suggest continuing with the classes and then check your progress. even if you don't pursue a dance career, it is an excellent hobby. it's not only a great workout, but really helps you appreciate the art.

Are you talking about ballet or what? It's not too late to study at any age. I've been a dance teacher for over 30 years and I am still studying--just started flamenco and for fun "swing" dancing.
It's a great social thing to do, great exercise, mind organizer, etc.
A career is usually started much earlier, but it depends on what you want to do. I have many adult students who have made great achievements--they have a much better understanding then they younger students do, so they progress at a much faster rate.
Go for it!!!!
