I've had the same problems with HSBC.

I just ask the call center to put me through to my branch too. If they don't I call my relationship manager and give him hell!

Some companies (Powergen) are starting to move calls centers back to the UK & Ireland as they realise that they are getting more complaints about the call centers than anything else.

Your so called High St. bank is not gonna be there for long for you to pop in for a friendly chat with your English gentleman of a bank manager, and you know why? yeap even you perhaps could guess. Cost effectiveness. Why on earth with all the available technology would they want to keep paying rent and rates, council business tax etc etc. to keep your high st. bank open so you could feel at home? They are in a business of making money just and perhaps even more than any other business. They need to keep their overheads down and not only your high st. bank but also BT, other banks, mobile phone company etc etc. have given all your personal details to some call handling company in India or in future on to some other poor country for cheap labour and exploitation of other human beings. Now if I were you I would really be worried as I havent even started telling you what they gonna do with your account and other personal details in countries where English pound buys a whole 2-weeks cheap call handling labour. Next thing you know your card is being used to purchase Indian sari and tea in china and perhaps the following day losing some of your money in a Les Vegas casino too, after all they can now afford buying air ticket with your money to do some gambling in L.V. too. Oh look dear dont think too much about it as you might not be able to get peaceful sleep anymore.

You can't ring your high street bank because they all automated all their processes, just leaving the minimum staff in branches to serve the customers that walk through the door. Do you really want them to handle all the calls as well? Tell you what... stick a broom up their arses and they'll sweep the high street as well... daft get.

I can easily ring my own branch of one of my banks but not the other. The reason being that it's cheaper to send the work over there than keep it in the uk.....

if you ring the indian call centre, you might be able to ask them to pass you through to your branch, my other bank offers that option....

Because it's cheaper to operate from India, thankfully a lot of companies are now re-locating back to u.k..I'm fed up of trying to make myself understood to a person who has a minimal command of english, this happens with banks, building societies and directory enquiries
