I haven't had my period since May 1st and had multiple pregnancy tests done and a doctor checked me and told me I wasn't. I'm still late and I just called my gyno and he told me to take one more test and if it comes out negative, to start my birth control pills Sunday. Is it safe to start that without having a period? And why take it if no period? Does it make it come on?

If your doctor is recommending it, I say do it. It basically stops you from ovulating for 21 days, and then the "sugar pills" on the last 7 days allow any lining buildup to flush out of your system. By getting on the pill, the hormones will tell your body that you should be on a predictable cycle. However, you should make sure it's right for you. It decreases my sex drive, which can be frustrating. Also ask for a low-dosage brand so as not to endanger yourself of the female cancers (cervical, breast, etc). They won't make it come on, but hopefully after 21 days of getting the hormone, once those 7-day pills start, the sudden absence of the hormone will trigger the period to start. If not, don't worry - your body may not need a period (especially when on the pill because there is not as much buildup and uterine lining when you don't ovulate) and thus is not wasting the blood and energy on it. Hope that helps - I'm glad you have a Doctor's supervision!!

Follow your doctor's advice. I don't know how old you are, but sometimes you just miss a month for no reason what so ever. If your doctor did a pregnancy test and it was negative and told you to start your next set of pills then do it. They will help get your system back on track and keep it there. You will probably not start your period again until you reach the correct color of pills that you have to signal that it's time.

I would listen to your doctor. There are many reasons why women stop having thier period, but it may not mean that you cant get pregnant. Women who are extremely stressed, or have dropped a lot of wieght, or work out too much may stop getting it. The doctor is always the best person to listen to. If he is telling you to take BC, then maybe it will help put you on a regular cycle.

Yes the pill will regulate your cycle causing you to have a period. Read the information you get with the pill.

If you are underweight your periods will stop or become irregular so make sure you keep a healthy diet. Also if you are having or have had unprotecte sex have yourself check for an std which can sometimes cause these symptoms.but otherwise it is not uncommon for woman to miss her period.

The pill will help to level out the hormones that bring your period on. If you aren't pregnant though, I am wondering why you haven't gotten it. Sometimes the season changes mess up the cycle, but usually not for such a long period of time. Good luck!

I stopped my period when I was 20 (11 years ago) and haven't had it since -- Ive been to many different doctors and they all have said that there is nothing wrong with me, that it is not normal for a young lady not to get her period -- but for me it is normal. (I personally do not like the pill - I have NEVER been on it - and I wont, I know too many people who have had too many problems (health problems)

You should do what your doctor says. The pill can make your period more regular. There are hormones in it that will help balance out your body chemistry.

Honey, that doesn't make sense to me to start BC because usually it makes the menstruation shorter and lighter. I think you should get a second opinion. It's normal for a period to skip a month, but two? Please get another opinion, preferably a woman doctor, as they're more attuned to us. Good luck, dear.

I agree with the Dr - the bc regulates you. If you still aren't sure, make an appointment with him, or find a new Dr! Good Luck!
