My friend is lazy. She doesn't want to be. She tries to do things. But she always finds her self sitting down, not always in front of the T.V. , sometimes out side. She knows that she has things to do but she says that she is always tired or sleepy. She just found out that she has thyroid disease about 6 months ago and has been on meds since. She has been working out but that is hard for her to stick to. Although she has lost 25 lbs. I want to know what to do to help her. What can she do. Is there a diet pill that will give her extra energy without making her wired. She works and goes to college so I think that she just wants to sit down and relax when ever she can. What can she do? Please no mean answers.

I have an under-active thyroid and I'm constantly tired too, get her to go back to the doctor to see if she needs more med, mine went from 25mg to 150mg in a space of a few months.

Also the exercises from here will make her feel a bit more energetic

Also thyroid disease causes depression, in fact a lot of illnesses cause depression which will also make her lack energy, I have 5 medical problems and they all cause depression... therefore I have 5 different forms of depression (Thats what my doctor told my mum). So of course shes going to be "lazy." But she isn't really lazy, it's just the effects of the illness.

I have battled with her same problem for years. Here are a couple things to check. First, she really has to do research on thyroid disease. Are her meds high enough? Does she have enough free T3? Her T4 could be normal with the tests, but she might need more T3. Mary Shammon is a great resouse. She has a few books and your can find her on about.com. Second- she should have her iron tested. Low iron can lead to fatigue. Finally one thing that I would strongly suggest is to see a doctor about antidepressants. She could just have a brain chemical imbalance. Prozac made me more tired but Wellbutrin gave me lots of energy. Good luck to her.

It definetly has to do with the thyroid. Has she told her doctor about the lack of energy? Is she depressed or every been treated for depression? These are things she needs to tell her doctor and if that does not help I suggest going to GNC and looking for some suppliments and multivitamins that would help. Diet energy pills have gooten better over the last few years but make sure the suppliments do not interfere with the thyriod therapy.

Your Thyroid affects your energy levels, your hormone levels and all kinds of things just cause she is on meds she will still be tired, She might also suffer from depression as that can also be a side affect the best thing you can do is not look at her as lazy but someone with an illness...Shannon m

A doctor can best advise her on treatment options for her medical condition. Did she lose 25 lbs. because she was exercising and eating right or because of her thyroid disease? There is such a thing as unhealthy weight loss.

People can "act their way into feeling"--that is, whatever you are doing you will probably feel like continuing to do. If I am sitting around watching TV, I feel like sitting around watching TV. If I go to the gym and start working out, I feel good and want to keep exercising. Motion creates emotion.

In college, I signed up for yoga or dance classes because I knew I probably wouldn't feel like working out on my own time after class. But when I had a P.E. class to go to, I went and enjoyed it. Maybe the two of you, instead of meeting for lunch or to go to the movies, could go hiking or swimming together.

The thyroid problem really does have a major impact on how she feels though. Sounds like her prescription is too low. Any natural diet pills ... like green tea, are also a good source of energy.

I dont think she is trying hard enough. You cant make someone not be lazy, they have to have enough will power and self control to do it themselves. A thyroid disease can make it harder, but my aunt has the same thing, and she cannnot sit still. It all has to do with the personality of the person.

folks with thyroid have limited energy. she needs plenty of rest. at least 8 hours of sleep. the less stress around her is the better. its great that she has a friend like you that cares about her. She has to talk to her doctors about taking energy pills. oFTEN energy pills can be addictive and since she talkin her medicine. it might not be a good mix. well, good luck to her..

Ask her doctor for B-12 shots and take a good multivitamin. Thyroid disease can cause a lot of things (laziness isn't one of them). She just has to push herself and take her medicine consistently.

She needs a good vitamin program. Tell her to go to her pharmacy and ask for a liquid multivitamin with iron. Lack of iron makes us 'lazy'! By taking a liquid form, it goes into your bloodstream much more efficiently.
