Someone once told me that it wasn't one year closer to their death - it was one year closer to seeing thier parents and friends (that had passed on) again - one year closer to meeting their Savior. I like that idea. This was someone in their 70s telling me this.

I'm from New Orleans so Death isn't as big a deal here (At least to them, I still think it sucks and am in no way happy it's coming)
But, when we celebrate Birthdays down here it's more because it's a year that we've lived, a year's worth of experience, and another year that we've cheated death. And that's comething to celebrate!

It's a celebration of life. Life is precious and every day of it should be celebrated. Why get yourself depressed about what might happen at any time instead of enjoying the time you have?
I've already made it known when I do die that I want a huge party to celebrate the life I had, not a big crying session because i"m no longer here in physical form

It's not about celebrating because you're one year closer to death! It's about celebrating the fact that you have been blessed with one more year of LIFE. Death is inevitable. Your LIFE should be celebrated! I use to worry about getting older..... but when some of my friends, my age and even younger, started dying from breast cancer, etc. and leaving small children behind, I realized that every birthday (every year) I live is truely a blessing.

Everyone and everything must die so why waste what little time you have worrying about death? Death itself can be a celebration. Without death there can be no life.

well, i'm not suspose to be celebrating birthdays because of my religion, but i find it extremely hard not to celebrate my little boys birthday. i look at it this way- god made people so that they can reproduce and make babys so the world will continue and its a miracle. but your not suspose to celebrate that day, i dont understand it. why cant people celebrate the day that their child was brought into the world???

Most Normal people are Celebrating another year of life. . Let me ask you this? Is the glass of life half full or half empty in your world?
My suggestion to you would be to enjoy savor and caress each day of life as it is your last because it just might be!!

They dont really think about that I guess. And if they did think of that then people would be just so sad and serious all the time. Only a negative and depressed person would think of that. Sometimes they say it but arnt really serious. How about they think "Ive lived for 1 more year"
