What kind of jobs I can get with an MSW as opposed to a degree in Psyhcology. I'd like to avoid getting a Ph. D or Psy D and I think I want to work with children with disabilties because I have a passion for children and Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA). Also, what are good schools for MSW programs? I live in NY but if necessary will relocate for a good program. Thanks so much for your help!

I would choose the MSW over psychology because with an MSW, you can do the same work as a masters level psychology major plus more. Having a MA in psychology, I know first hand that there are more opportunities for social work majors. With an MSW you can work to become a LCSW, provide counseling, have a private practice, be a supervisor or director of social services programs. There are so many possibilities, especially in working with children. I'm sure that NY has some pretty good programs. Just make sure that the program you choose is accredited. Here is a link for ABA.

With an MSW you can only work fairly low paying jobs...but it's the same with a master's in psych. You can work as a Parole officer, psychologic para-professional, guardian/conservator, or in some type of 'care agency'. I suggest you go for your PhD in psychology.

You shouldn't avoid doctorate. MSW will likely lock you up in a dead-end public-sector job. With PhD or PsyD, you will have a much better chance at teaching ang counseling.

In addition to social work, you can look into special education programs in Education departments. Pick where you want to go first, and then go to graduate school there. There are good programs in all the states, but different states have different requirements.
