I have a purple leaf plum tree in my yard and it is bearing fruit, i need to know if it can be eaten I have two small children and need to know if I have to be worried about it being in my yard.

Like a flowering plum tree? the older ones make little cherry-sized fruit. There are some sour spots near the seed, and skin, but the rest of the fruit is very sweet.

I've never seen any worms in it. More likely you'll get ants, but that isn't any worse than with apricot trees.

The biggest danger is the seed, but if your children know how to eat fruit already, they should be able to spit that out without choking on it or breaking teeth.

Yes, it can be eaten. However, they'll have worms in the fruit if you didn't spray it and treat it for pests this year! Also, they can be quite sour.
