If you notice most magazines, songs, commercials, etc, all aim to make sure that you should be beautiful to be noticed and be something special. It seems this message is really being pushed far more than it used to be, and that if you're not considered 'beautiful', you better get beautiful or else. Is anyone else a little tired of it?

VANITY IS IN THE EYES OF THE BE HOLDER

Sadly, there have been research carried out which states good looking people are likely to be more popular, more likely to be employed by an employer etc.
I'm not sure how to look at it, but I do think beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Most people, me included have to be physically attracted to someone before I can go out with a woman, but that being said, my friend may not agree with my choice.
Money and sales, sex sells and money is made. People are just less creative with how to sell things. It is sickening.

Vanity is everything. If you're not cute, hot, blah blah blah whatever then you'll never get noticed. This girl I know applied for a job at Sonic and they didn't hire her because they said she wasn't an attention getter.

This is a good observation. I think what underlies all of this is sex. We have started equating beauty with sexual performance. Sex itself has always mattered, but recently (last century?) we have begun viewing sex as more than just reproductive; it is pleasurable. I guess people have started thinking it is more "fun" to have sex with someone who looks good than with someone who does not. But, in the words of my mother...put a bag over their head and they're all the same :)

It's a superficial generation.Looking good, feeling good and getting things without any effort are expected. They'll be sadly disappointed when the rest of the world doesn't pamper them.

Yes and no. Being 'hot' does matter, but there are a lot of other things that matter more.
