Seriously, ladies. My friends have said it, too. Are you really using birth control properly, and then getting pregnant?

Tiffany, you said that before, Boy, you sure are proud how NO birth control has ever worked for you!

I guess I must have gotten all 1% to answer. I'm not worried about the .01%, because I use it properly. When I went off, I got pregnant immediately. My uterus has been described by doctors as a 'sitting duck'. My fiance has gotten 2 girls pregnant, as he is also very fertile. But again, when you use it correctly, it works.

Birth control statistics are based only on perfect use. Error percentages in methods like the Pill are only scientific numbers. These numbers do not take into account the many ways a patient can misuse the Pill. Taking the Pill at different times instead of at the same time every day, missing a Pill and doubling up the next day, not using a backup method while on anti-biotics- these are all things that can cause the Pill to be less effective.
Everyone knows the the only truly 100% effective method of birth control is to not have sex at all. But, knowing how your body works and how to correctly use whatever method of birth control you choose- the Pill, condoms, the Patch, whatever- can help prevent pregnancy at a 99% effectiveness rate.

In order for the birth-control to be 99% effective, you have to take it at the exact same time, everyday. You also have to use condoms for the first month you start the birth-control. If you take it like that, then it's pretty much impossible to get pregnant. Most of the women who get pregnant on the birth-control aren't using it properly, taking it everyday at the same time or using protection. You're also supposed to use condoms if you miss, like, 2 or 3 days of the birth control. It might also be that the amount of estrogen in the pill isn't enough.

yes, they really are. that's why it's not 100 % effective.
also, on average women who take the pill (99% effective) are taking it to an average of 96% effectiveness b/c they aren't taking every pill at the exact same time everyday...it's close to it, but sometimes a pill is missed or is taken late.
imagine all the women in the world who are on the birth control pill...let's say 3 million women (no idea if this is accurate number) and they all take it EXACTLY how they should to be 99% effective, then you still have 30,000 women that are likley to get pregnant while taking the pill. that's alot of unwanted pregnancy.
now, imagine if they are taking how most women take it at 96% effectiveness. well, then you're looking at 120,000 possible pregnancies while being "protected".
so, yes, it's totally possible....wise, well, i suppose not, but at least it's some kind of protection to help lower the unwanted pregnancy number.
take care.

Sorry to say but 99% of the women on the pill do not take it correctly. It's hard to remember half the time that you have to take this little pill at a certain time each day. Some honestly do take them correctly and end up pregnant anyway. The only safe way is to wrap it if you don't want kids!!! Be smarter than your brain below your waist!!! Don't blame it all on the girls...you contribute to the child making as well...just as guilty as we are.

The only form of birth control that is COMPLETELY reliable is not having sex at all. If you get pregnant while on the pill you may not be taking your pills at the SAME time everyday.....which you must, missing pills, forgetting pills, or taking a medicine which makes the pill ineffective such as an antibioitic. Although, the occassional woman takes it perfectly and still ends up pregnant. Nothing is 100% except abstaining.

Well I was on the pill... also told that I'd probably never have children, still took it as instructed and I'm 8 months pregnant, it's 99% effective not 100% so there is still that possibility of becoming pregnant. Don't want to risk the 1% don't have sex!

I actually got pregnant on the pill with my six year old son. Sometimes if you are on birth control certain medications you take with it like an antibiotic will stop the pill from working and thats what happened in my case I was taking antibiotics wich stopped the affect of the pill and I had my little boy

You just answered your own question!
Key word being "properly."
I've heard of girls being on birth control, not knowing that antibiotics can affect it, and getting pregnant that way. But I'm wondering if most people that say what you did are actually taking it like they are supposed to. Then again, there is that other 1%...

I am the lucky one out a hundred & never missed a pill. My pills said Monday, Tues, Wed - well you get the point. That is why they do not say 100% - that is abstenience.
What a beauty they sent me!
Planned Parenthood says with perfect use only 1 out of 100 will get pregnant, not perfect use raises it to 8 out of 100.
