a team can start as many different pitchers as they want, the 5 man rotation is just the current day standard. considering the lack of quality pitching in baseball today, some teams cannot even field 5 solid starters so i dont know why you would want to start many more than that.

a substantial league crew for various the season has a 25 guy roster. often, 11-12 spots are for pitchers and 5 of the pitchers are the taking off pitchers. they could substitute pitchers as in a large number of situations as they prefer until eventually they run out of gamers. On uncommon events, if a crew is getting stomped, the crew will usher in a unmarried of its position gamers to pitch so that they don't waste the pitchers' fingers in a hopeless conflict. often, at the same time as a tumbler is pulled, he taken thoroughly out of the game. no, just the limit on the number of people on a team. if a team wants more starter pitchers, it would have to cut back on other players.

Technically a team COULD (if it wanted ) have 17 starters on their 25-man roster. That's because they'd need a minimum of 8 position players. But it would be insane to staff a team this way.

No there isnt but most managers seem to just go with 5 but they could do with more or less. It's all due to what kind of pitchers you have on the team.

No limit. The only limit is to the roster and that is 25. The rosters get expanded after Sept 1st in order to bring up minor league prospects.

No, but it is rare to see a six man rotation anymore. The Mets did it for a while in 1999.
