Babies are *not* supposed to get *anything* but breastfeeding (or formula) before they are 6 months old.. Before that age, they can't digest it. If you *do* give her cereal, it *may* fill her up--because it just sits in her stomach for long periods of time--but it will do that at the expense of her getting the nutrition she needs for growth and development. It also exposes her to serious health risks, including allergies, asthma, and possibly other things, as well. No, not *every* baby who is force-fed cereal will get sick, but you won't know in advance if yours will be the one who suffers life-threatening injuries.

Unless your pediatrician has advised so I say no. Advice from my daughter's pediatrician said wait till at least four months old and start off small. Starting cereal too early can lead to obesity. Also, are you burping your baby after a couple ounces and then trying again? Try different things to make sure your baby is getting enough to eat. If not, your baby may not like the nipple or the milk or could be anything. If you continue having trouble I would consult your pediatrician. Good Luck!

Yes she can! My son was never happy drinking only milk. After feedings he couldn't even make it an hour without being hungry again, but he didn't want more formula. I started by putting 1 tbl. of cereal in 4oz. of formula at about 3 weeks old, by 6 weeks he was eating cereal from a spoon. This may not work for every baby but my son was 10lbs. and just needed a little more to eat. People today may believe that thats to early but its what are parents did for us and our great-grand parents did for are parents. It wasn't that long ago that all babies were eating table food at 3 and 4 months! my son is now two and a prefect weight and loves his veggies, with no signs of tummy problems. I hope this helps.

this is a very controversial question. Both my children were the same way. Never satisfied with just milk. At 1 1/2 months my son started cereal. It didn't hurt him or cause any defects or problems with digestion. Do NOT stick it in a bottle. Cereal in bottle can cause overeating and its easier to choke on. Start out with very watered down cereal. If there are no allergies in the family then you really have nothing to worry about. Talk with your pediatrician first. Let her/him know what's going on. My guess is he'll tell you that in the end its really your decision. That's exactly what my dr. told me. Both my children turned out just fine and they started cereal early. Good luck! Remember you're the mother, you'll figure out what's best for your children may or may not be best for other kids.

All four of my children were the same way. So I started adding cereal to there milk. In the bottle of course. Just enough to thicken a little. That seemed to do the trick especially before bedtime. They slept a lot better. As always watch for the baby to show signs of an allergic reaction. And if she starts spitting up more than normal she may not be quite ready to handle it yet. As always talk to your pediatrician about all your concerns. That's what their there for. But I give a definate yes. Just watch her, you'll know if it's working or if you need to try something else.

NO! They are not to have solid foods until at least 4 months or so. If your baby is not getting full (which they should be eating about every 2 - 3 hours) try increasing her milk amount. My baby was eating about 4-5 ounces every 2-3 hours at that age...also through the night she would eat the same as during the day. Don't try to grow your baby up so fast....call your pediatrician.

at only 5 weeks she should really just be on breast milk or formula. are you sure you are feeding her enough in baby's world and not just an adult's mindset?? she should be eating about every 2-3 hours....
she isn't going to just eat one bottle 3 times a day, like breakfast, lunch and dinner....
so, if you are feeding her enough for a baby and she still isn't getting full, then i would take her to the pediatrician for a check-up.
i read an article that babies will not overeat until they are about 3-4 years old. until they are at that age, their bodies "know" what they need and how often...it's like they are on auto-pilot.
take care and i hope everything is alright.

NO!! This will harm her digestive system. If her milk isn't filling her up, then she's growing - and requires more ounces at each feeding. Babies should not have cereal or anything but formula/breast milk until they are around 4 months of age.

If YOU feel she needs to be on formula, then by all means put her on it. No pediatrician will tell you to give an infant cereal when they're that young. Hell most mothers will tell you not to. I put my youngest child on it when she was 2 weeks old, I was advised not to but I felt that as her mother, I would know the right time. She's perfectly healthy. She's 15 months old no food allergies or anything. You're the child's mother and I always feel that mommy knows best. You should give her more formula first though.
