I had that same problem but thats only where it ended.My PS2 is working fine and nothing apart from the noise is happening.Quit fretting and don't waste money fixing any noise or buying a new PS2.

When you bought your ps2 you got a booklet with the service phone number; if you phone them they can tell you. They used to send a courier out with a replacement machine for about £60 and take yours away.

If your PS2 is horizontal it will make this noise, I had the same problem, don't get a new one, stand it up on it's side :) xx

No Way !! I had the same problem so i took it back to the store and got another one ,,,IT DOES the same thing , when its loading i can hear it making that sound and some times the game frezzes up ,, but i do thingk its normal ,,you can try cleaning it but i do think its okay ,, if not let me now ...
