The city and the surroundings are beautiful. I used to live there for 3 years. The city is pretty small but you'll have to walk a lot, so you'll be busy enough. It's a city full of history, a great place to eat fish and sea foods and do shopping. I would recommend to visit the small villages on the surounding islands, it is so unique. Do not miss Saint Martin de Re (Re island). Also the close city of Chatelallion is a nice place to walk along the beach. Enjoy!

First things that enter my thinking is(I am Owner of a Travel Agency so I encounter these situations on occasion):

1-What are you looking for? The culture? The food? Scenery?
2-Your Travel Budget?
3-Looking for Air/Hotel? All-Inclusive?
4- When did you plan to go?
5- City of departure?

Those minor considerations aside, La Rochelle is not a bad place to visit. Also understand that what your Travel budget is will play a part in whether La Rochelle, France is doable for you or not, as some parts of France are more expensive than others.

A little primer about La Rochelle- It is right off the Bay of Biscay; it is a major Arts community(especially music, ballet). They offer different activities throughout the year(The Grand Pavois, La Rochelle Marathon, Autumn Auto Rally, International Film Festival--highly recommended). The weather, depending on the time of year, is actually comparable to the Coast of Oregon or Washington.

I personally and professionally have not stayed in La Rochelle(travelled through the city); however, due to the location, weather, and the number of activities year-round, it is an ideal vacation spot for either couples or families. Kindly call, email me at: indysteve1563@yahoo.com, reach me through Yahoo Messenger with your criteria, and I will work with you to locate a vacation that meets your criteria.
