The reason it is illegal (racket) is because companies like coca cola were introducing itduring films (32 oz) and it was causing people to get up from the film (refreshing cold drink) and purchase something they wouldn't purchase (5dollar candy) otherwise..much like if you haven't eaten in a while and you go to a grocery store (dove ice cream) and you start to see things that would make you fat but in normal conditions you would never buy those things.

Because it dosent let the individual make an informed decision. Say you are watching a coke ad, Mc Donalds has been submitting subliminal messages through out the ad. You have an overwhelming urge to go to Mc D. That is an illegal action by McD.
