Trust. Without trusting or being trustworthy, true intimacy cannot exist.

the one thing that would make intimacy impossible if excluded would be emotion. if you take away the feeling or emotion of Love, however you define it, then any contact or action between two people is just a pathway to sex; physical pleasure.

however with an emotional connection (love) any contact mutually desired by both parties would be considered intimacy it producing not only the physical pleasure but the emotional pleasure as well multiplying the effects of both. creating that intimacy

in my opinion.

The single most important trait that constitutes human intimacy is the sharing of one's heart and soul. You must open yourself up and make yourself vulnerable in order to experience intimacy. When this is shared with another person, there is no greater feeling on earth.

That's one man's opinion.

Thanks.

No love or trust would cause intimacy to be impossible. Trusting and knowing your partner in all ways possible constitutes intimacy.

Touch, without human touch intimacy is impossible. Which is probably why so many long distance relationships fail.

Empathy. Lack of ability to recognize and understand the emotion of another leads to the lack of intimacy (not strictly in the sexual sense, but in the truest sense of the word; simply, feelings of closeness with others).
