How can anyone say the car. How stupid. What do you think happens when you call an ambulance to save your life. Cars are both responsible for taking and saving lives. Also think of all the saved time (which adds up to years of life) driving to a location rather than walking. Combustable engines are used today because they are the best. Both steam and electrical cars were made before the combustable engine. The reason we ended up with a gasoline engine is because it is the best one.
The worst invention is not nuclear energy either. It is the best power source on earth. Its just misused. Just like the automobile.
The worst invention I have seen was this suit this guy made so he could pee in public. I just have to ask. Why?

Pornography.
No redeeming social value. Harms male/female relationships, which also helps destroy the family, the basis of civilization.
Unlike weapons, or the car, TV, internet, etc., it has no social value. It is only a negative, and a very large one at that.
