Between 14 and 29 times average. Some get stuck in banks and government depots after only two trips, from the coin facility to the bank or ministery. Most coins of one pound travel 41 times a year, 5 of them in the subway and three on the train. Two times it is given as tip and seven as fare.

I'm sure I remember seeing a website with this experiment on it - they had 50 £1 coins, and like 75% of them actually stayed within a 10 mile radius of the original release. The other 25% went all round the country... 1 ended up in America I remember (mainly cos I was thinking they couldn't use that over there!)

An interesting question. I once read a story about the adventures of a coin. It was an informative story about human nature.

well, i have several in a glass jar so no movement for them:)) But i have also taken £1 coins on holiday to SA. Or u could leave an email address on a bank note, and asl everyone to email you when they get the note. PS The bank of england may not like this idea cos it's illegal not deface banknotes

The coin will only travel if the person carrying it is moving.. you will never find out unless you have placed a tracker on it.

The coin may be current but can't travel by itself!

The coin itself does not travel. It travels in the pocket of its possessor.
Does that answer your question?

All around the world... it's probably still travelling. Of course, it depends on who has it and how long they keep it and where they go. But, eventually, it has probably been everywhere.
