swelling mainly in the hind legs. usually from trauma, standing in the stall too long, or sickness

It's normally in the hind legs - circulation issues. If a horse is used to being out and brought in a stall they'll get stocked up. Horses in the field usually don't have the problem. They aren't sore...just swollen. (if they're sore it's more than just stocking up). Most common in older horses.

It swells from keeping a horse in a stall all night. Just keep your horse in a field as much as possible. It will go down after you exercise your horse for a few minutes.

They just get really stiff and it's painful for them to move. You can keep this from happening by keeping them warm after a hard workout and not letting their muscles get wet with cold water to fast. Cool them down properly and you will never have to see it. I'm pretty sure that that is what it is, but I might be thinking about something else.

hold your mouse over the link for a few minutes and it will show the full link that you can write down since yahoo won't let you click on it or show the full on here.
