Lois Griffin said "Is it better for two people of the different sex that hate each other be married than two same sex people that love each other?" I am christian and straight, but I believe that if america is a free country, why are there bans on gay marrige? And there is talk about changing the pledge becuase not everyone belives in god. Well if that is right, how can people say that gay marrige should not be accepted becuase the bible says so? Not everyone goes by the bible. And no matter how religous you are, how does gay marrige effect you? It's not like you have to marry anyone of the smae sex. I say let them do what they want to do, and we can do what we do. A true christian I believe will accept and respect anyone, even if it means they are different. When I see a crowd, I dont see colors, gays or anything. I see people. Like I have heard before, it is not okay for two men to be married, but it is okay for people to get maried for one night and make a mockery of marrige?

I agree 110%. No, 150%. I've been saying that for years.

Thank you for putting this out there like that. Very clear and understandable, good grammar and all. People should be able to understand. And even if it makes one person really sit back and think, then that's one less person we need to worry about forcing their opinions on our gay friends and on others.

Let me say, first and foremost, that I am a lesbian. I think that homosexuals should have the same rights that any other straight citizen has. I am reminded of the civil rights act of 1964 when blacks were fighting for their rights to vote and be considered first class citizens with the white people. They were chastised, tortured, thrown in jail for petty things, and even killed while fighting for basic rights.

There are some cases of homosexuals being beaten and/or killed just for being homosexual, so I don't think we have come very far as a nation. It seems as though a person is inferior, still today, unless they are a straight, white male. I am appalled at this realization.

Just recently, my ex-girlfriend married her gay, male best friend because he was deployed to Iraq and there was no other way for him to get his money back home to pay the bills. He has a boyfriend, but it is illegal for them to marry so that such a simple act can be done. My ex-girlfriend also has a girlfriend, and, luckily, both their partners were okay with the marriage. I think this says a lot about the sanction of marriage. They'll give a marriage license to a gay man and a lesbian woman who are not in love, but they won't allow two people of the same sex to share in the bond who are deeply in love and committed to spending their lives together. Basically, the only requirements for a marriage license is one woman and one man. How ridiculous is that?

When people say that homosexuals being allowed to wed are threatening the sanction of marriage, I would like to raise the point I have made about a gay man and a lesbian woman marrying just so that some simple bills can be paid. Is that not also a threat? What if every single gay man paired up with a lesbian woman, and vise versa, to marry? Is there going to be some sort of background check on whether or not the person is queer just so that they may obtain a marriage license? This is all ludicrous and I hope that someday soon a bill can be passed to allow ANY and ALL citizens of the United States of America to marry anyone, of any sex they wish to. It's high time we get with the program and get up-to-date.

I believe that much of the problem that SOME (obviously not all) religious people have with homosexual sex is that it cannot be procreational sex. From some Judeo-Christian points-of-view, sex is basically a sinful thing, and the sinfullness can be redeemed ONLY through a willingness to allow life to come through it.

This is why some people are against contraception--even condoms. It's not because they think that it "kills babies," but because the (assumed) sinfullness of sex is not being offset by the possibility of a birth.

Notice that old people, who are beyond reproductive age, are allowed to get married, and no one bats an eye. I've always wondered why the anti-gay-marriage crowd thought about THAT. And then it occurred to me that they MIGHT be assuming that old folks don't have sex, that they're getting married solely for companionship or something. Or maybe they think that God will make a miracle, and an old lady can get knocked up...after all, it happened to Sarah when she was something like 100 years old! Or maybe they just avoid even THINKING about what old folks might be doing in bed, I dunno...

And it REALLY doesn't help that there are specific condemnations of (male) homosexuals in Leviticus, and that many Christians choose to cling to THAT part of Leviticus, when they cling to very little else in that part of the O.T. (Easter ham, anyone? Leviticus definitely says that THAT'S a no-no!)

Im sorry but i disagree completely. Gay marriage and gay sex is just wrong. No matter how you look at it, it is wrong. Thats not how it was intended to be. You dont see gay animals in the wild, do you? How do you think it is for children? Several gay couples where i live have kids, one way or another. This isnt fair to those poor kids. How do they deal with two mommies or two daddies? What do they say when the kids in the third grade say " your daddy is a *****"? Kids are very mean and nasty! They should not be alllowed to have the same rights or priviledges that a normal married couple. If they want to live that life, im ok with that. But dont bring it around me. I also dont think they should be allowed to have kids, and they should not get any of the tax benefits, or married couple benefits. Sorry, just my opinion!

I agree with you. If they love each other why should we care if there gay or straight. I have thought for a long time that gay couples should have rights to their significant others. Most everyone I know feels the same way I do. And the only ones that I can see is having the problems with it is government. Of course the government has to make things harder than they really are. So what do we expect.

Was there a question in there?? What was it? And which one of your five questions did you expect an answer to?

edit: Yes, I did count them. Thanks for clarifying your question.

I don't believe that there should be a ban against same sex marriages. I believe that gay couples should be afforded the same rights as anyone else. Regardless of whether or not you agree with it, I think if you just look at our laws, it's clear that it's discrimination not to allow gay couples to marry. If we did not allow interracial couples to marry, or black couples to marry, there would be a huge outcry because that's so obviously discrimination. To me, it is the same thing for same sex couples. They deserve the right to get the same benefits from marriage (health care, child custody, social recognition, etc) as anyone else.

I agree with your point about seeing "people" rather than colors or sexual orientation. One thing that has always made me think was when I had friends who would complain about how much they hated where they lived. To them, if they moved away, to somewhere else, somewhere different, suddenly everything in their lives would be okay. What they didn't seem to realize is that wherever you go people really are truly the same. We all have hopes, dreams, fears, wishes for ourselves and for our loved ones. We may be diverse culturally and individually, but when you come right down to it we are unified by our humanity.

I have never seen the need to regard gay people as being "different" or strange. I have had a ton of gay friends, and I remember very clearly one of them saying to me, "Ashley, all these people hate me because they say I CHOSE this for myself. No one would CHOOSE this for themselves, to be forever looked down upon by people that are small minded. If I had a choice, I would be straight, but I can't be. I didn't have a choice."

I am not a Christian so I can't speak from your religious standpoint. From what I understand though, Jesus preached love and tolerance. I find it hard to believe that he would find it okay for people to ostracize, revile, ridiculed and criticized, much less beaten, harassed, and sometimes murdered and tortured.

I don't believe that it's wrong for two people to love one another, and I don't believe they should be penalized, judged, or punished by society for it.

I completely agree with you. I am christian and straight, but the way that I look at it is that I would much rather see people be happy and have the same rights as I do. You bring up a great point about the government taking the word "God" off of everything because they're worried that they will offend.

I think that it should not be banned I think that just because they are gay that it should not change the out look, If the people are expresing their sexuality and are proud of it then let it be, and not everyone odes believe in GOD that is true so there fore it should not be banned and I think the truth about it is that the people who do not like it are descriminating and declaring peoples character, which is wrong.

Sorry, but Christians do not get to define what is and what is not marriage -- the law does that. The only real question is whether defining marriage in terms of one male and one female is consistent or inconsistent with the views of the electorate and its representatives, and if prohibited, whether that prohibition is consistent with the state and federal constitutions.

Personally I don't give a crap what they do, but don't force me to accept it. I don't want to read in the local paper what fags are marrying, nor as a business owner do I want to be forced to accept it as a normal marriage because it isn't. Move to Canada if you want to be accepted.
